We have one now for DD (18mths) and probably will for a while. It's mostly useful for DS (8) though, who DD is currently sharing with. He can no longer get away with sitting twiddling his thumbs instead of getting ready for school Grin

still using one for my 7 year old.

SaltySeaBird · 17/11/2014 17:37

Used the Angel Care one with sensor mat until DD climbed out of her cot. She was about 16 months old (now 26 months). She makes enough noise that we can hear her if needed during the night.

I think we used it til she was about 3 or 4, but like others we have a 4 storey house and would never have heard if she was ill, or sick, for example. It was v useful when she had croup, which I would never have heard from 4 floors down.
Also she like to use it as a kind of walkie talkie device, it was actually v convenient.
I'm now wishing I'd kept it!

Asifbymagic · 17/11/2014 18:41

DS is 4 and as he will not shout out or get out of bed, no matter what's happening, we're gonna have to keep it for a while, as it's the only way we can hear there's a problem.

We use them for the evenings when dds are in bed and we're downstairs (3 and 1)
We don't when we're upstairs though

youarewinning · 17/11/2014 20:30

I used a sound monitor from when DS went into his own room at months until he was 3 and we moved into our current flat due to layout.

He's 10yo now and I use a video monitor and have done for about 8 months due to a sleep disorder.

So is say as long as you need Grin

ThatBloodyWoman · 17/11/2014 20:30

6 and 4 years old (same room).
Six year old had nightmares and I wanted her to know she only had to ask for me and I'd come -she didn't have to be brave enough to get out of bed.

Vinylux · 17/11/2014 20:46

Doesn't it depend on whether you can hear them or not? we live in a big victorian house with thick walls, in the evening when we are downstairs DC is two floors up from us and we wouldn't hear without the monitor, so we keep it even though he is 4!
If they wake up because they are sick etc the last thing you want is for them having to make their way downstairs puking on the carpet the whole way to get your attention! If they have a bad dream its much easier to hear on the monitor and pop up and see to them quickly than have them come all the way down the stairs to find you, whilst they get more upset and wide awake!

TheJourney22 · 17/11/2014 22:06

Never used one

evangelinelily · 18/11/2014 05:19

Used it until 14 months. I sleep way more soundly without hearing her little movements and noise and can hear her if she cries.

vvviola · 18/11/2014 05:26

For DD1 after she turned 2 we only used it when she was asleep and we were downstairs. Stopped using it when she was 4 and we moved house to one where it was easier to hear.

DD2's monitor broke recently (she's just turned 3). DH managed to coax it into life again but it doesn't like being moved - so again it's only on if we're downstairs and she's in bed as we wouldn't hear her with the doors closed and the tv on. She's also had some health issues which make DH a nervous wreck me a little more cautious.

I suspect when we move house/country early next year we'll get rid of it and not replace it.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/11/2014 08:28

Dd2 is 2 now and I still use ours. I will stop when she can reliably get herself out of bed and to the loo by herself, and when she shouts for us if she needs something. Probably about 3 - 4.

Spotsonmydots · 18/11/2014 10:32

I still used it up until 5. My dc had a tendency for croup and our house has thick walls

gourd · 18/11/2014 12:38

Around 18 months when we took side off her cot to make it into a cot-bed so she could come and get us if needed. We live in bunglaow with (literally egg-box) cardboard walls and no stairs..
