Too old for terries.

My son at 3yrs 9mths is still not yet dry overnight and still has regular accidents although we are getting there slowly.

As a result he still in a nappy overnight and during the day when we go out (although I use them as little a poss at home during the day).

Since I have a supply of terry squares and dont want to buy anything else at this stage I use them whenever he needs a nappy.

They work well and I'm happy to continue with them although a neighbour things he's to old for terries, what do other mums think ?

Is 3yrs 9mth too old for a terry ? has any one else used them at this late stage during the day (or even at night for that matter) ?

If they work for you then whats the problem. Tell her to keep her nose out, what does she want you to do, leave the boy wet!

?If he still needs nappies then he's not too old.
What does she think he should be in???????

I think shes of the opinion that terries are to bulky on an older toddler during the day.

Because of his size and he's a heavy wetter i use 2 squares at once, I pad fold one inside another that i kite fold and pin fasten. The bulk doesnt bother him (or me) but she thinks if he's in shorts that terries look unsightly if they poke from leg holes or over his waist band.

We,ve tried disposables and trainer pants neither of which are as absorbent as terries so I'd really rather continue as we are for a while longer.

Keep going - does she mean that he should be in disps? Tell her next time that the scrotum hangs lower to keep the testicles cooler than the rest of the body to protect sperm production - hence cotton and a breathable wrap are much better for him than effectively wrapping them in plastic and causing the temp in the scrotum to rise. He will also feel that he is wet in his terries.

That should keep her quiet!

yay cornflakekid! i agree what does she want him in?if he was in disposables she wouldnt say anything.

hi toastie - tell your neighbour to bog off!
i had to stop using terry nappies on my dd (2) because they were not absorbent enough - however i only used 1 - need to put 2 on ds2 at night but finding them too bulky to pin together - kite shape- but never thoguth of using one as padding down the middle like a liner (is that what you mean?)
fab idea - glad i found this thread x

Yes i make a rectangular pad from one nappy the place it inside a normal kite folded one and use 2 pins.

How old is your son and are you just using 1 or 2 pins ? I can still get them to fit my 3yr 9mth old quite easily so you shouldnt have any trouble unless you son is very big.

toastee, have you tried the Jo fold from the nappylady website? Ds3 is 21 months and I find it nice and neat, no bulk around the legs at all.

Dragonhart · 12/10/2006 22:08

I have been using the Jo fold too. Very absorbant as loads of layers at the front. I use napy nippas rather than 2 pins.

fintamoo · 17/10/2006 13:03

dd2 is four and still needs a nappy at night, she still wears a terry nappy in a kite fold and a booster pad inside. It doesnt seem to bother her, or me , dp or her brother and her sister. Tell your neighbour to mind her own. All children develop at different times. My dd1 was out of nappies day and night at 2.5, ds1 was out of nappies day and night at 3, but dd2 is out during the day but really cant manage at night, so we have left her for the moment (she has just started school).

toastee · 29/10/2006 13:21

I did try the 'Jo' fold but found although it gave enough padding it wasnt large enough around the waist so for the time being he's still in kite folded nappies (one pad folded inside the kite)

The arangement works well but can be a little bulky for daytime use and does mean it involves using 2 nappy pins rather than one.

I dont know how other mums manage with pins on an older toddler but I find much as he squirms at the sight of a pin these days they do work far better than nippas and we've never had an accident yet
