What sort of access course are you doing?

I also started an access course (social sciences) in September. Although I've decided what I want to study and where I want to study I'm still struggling with the ps.

Would be grateful for any tips

Gigglewiggle - What subjects are you studying to make up your Access course?

Do either of you have a general direction? Teaching? Nursing/healthcare?

I am almost finished my Access to Healthcare and due to start uni in February to train as a midwife (YIPPEEEEE!!) but there are some people on my course that still don't know what to do. You Access certificate should hold for 2 to 3 years so you have a bit of time....

I was in your position two years back, got accepted by all six I applied for so must have got something right LOL!

I think the trick is NOT to go about beinga Mother- you and I know it's very valid, but silly dmission people don't want to I am told. I focussed on where I want to be and how enthisiastic I was to get there, why i wanted to do it (for me it was teaching RE as I have a thing about racism and it seems the most effective way I could fight it), what skills I have that will make that possible AND contribute to my siccess as a student.

gigglewiggle your personal statement should reflect the direction you wish to take in whichever course you choose. I completed an access to health course in 2000 then attempted to join a midwifery course, which I got turned down for but was promised a place the following year! But then offered a degree in childrens nursing (which I accepted) it was hard work but worth it. I qualified in 2004 and went back to a different uni this year to undertake further modules in a BA in order to move on to to a health visiting course (hopefully) next year.Part way through my access course discovered I was expecting my sixth son (what a shock!)Had him toward the end of the course and he was 8mths old when I began my degree. Also managed to breasst feed him for 18mths.
