There's going to be a section about bilingualism tomorrow in the 'Journal de la santé' at 1.30pm. Don't miss it !

will try . I guess it will all be based on the book 'le défi du bilinguisme' which I recommend to everyone interested in those issues.

pizpizpiz, I have not heard of the book you mention. Are there any new insights or any controversial views presented? Am very interested as we are trying to raise our children bilingually.

Here's the reference of the book annasmami

book

It's really good. I don't know if it's controversial, it's the only one I've read on the subject ! The author was the guest of the tv programme.
Here's your synopsis nanou :

  • Stick to the one parent/one language approach.
  • Kids can learn a language naturally until 7y old, and not 12 as it was believed for a long time.
  • BL children all go through a phase when they seem to mix up both languages. They will say whatever word comes first or what's easier to pronounce. It's normal, they get over it at 3y old on average.
  • It's best to learn to read & write in one language first (the language of the school) and once the basics are there learn the same for the second language.
  • they dream in both languages !

For those who read French and are interested in the subject, there's also a good website (although not very lively imo)
