My toddler woke up this morning covered in his own vomit

Bless him, I have no idea when he was sick, it was all up on end of the cot and he had slept in it all night. Hence having red patches all over his face where I assume it has chafed or burnt it.

My first thought was he could have choked and I would never have know. That absolutely terrifies me and I can't stop cuddling and kissing him. I am a light sleeper and would have woken if he'd cried out. Poor little boy Sad

I think he over-ate last night and his tummy couldn't cope with the amount of food at that time of night, so it was our fault. It could be a bug but he seems absolutely fine, no poo in his pants. A child in his crèche was sick in the week but all the other children were herded up the other end so I don't think they came in contact with anything directly. Also it was early in the week, so if he was going to catch something wouldn't it have happened earlier?

As I said I think it was too much food at 7.30 ish and his stomach just thought better out than in and got rid of it.

God I feel like a piece of shit. If something had happened to him in the night my life would effectively be over, he is everything to me Sad

Are you sure the red patches aren't a rash ? diaorrhea can follow some time later so you aren't out of the woods yet . Bugs aren't transmitted just by the vomit itself but could be contact or airborne. Is he due in childcare tomorrow ?

They are only on his cheeks and ears where i think he had laid in the sick all night. I certainly don't have to take him to crèche tomorrow, I'm a SAHM so if I'm concerned it is a bug I will keep him off.

Aww poor mite

My dd did this action few weeks back but I found it around midnight when I stood in it while checking on her.

I'd see how he is for rest of today op

If there is a bug going round and he's been sick then he has the bug. Getting covered in someone else's sick at crèche would make it more likely to catch it, but you can pass on germs just through close contact esp with toddlers and their poor huge and close contact.

Follow the 48 hour rule.

This has happened to my DS twice in the last 6 months (he's just turned 2). Both times he had a vomiting bug because I then got it myself. My DS didn't cry either and made no noise, he was just very forlorn in the morning when I went in (and then off his food for a few days while he got over it). I felt awful that he had been lying in it for ages but he was fine. I didn't and don't worry about choking at this age as he sleeps on his front and is also perfectly mobile, unlike a very little baby, so will be able to turn his head to vomit (and I am sure it's instinctive). Mine is probably getting old enough to understand when I tell him that if he feels poorly or is sick he can always call mummy, so hopefully next time he gets a bug he will do that and not lie there quietly till morning!

Interestingly he doesn't seem to want any food although he has guzzled his milk. It's the first time he has ever been sick. To be honest he has never been ill at all bar a mild cold so I know I'm being OTT but I can't bare anything happening to him.
