Hi, I want to apply to do this as it is my dream job, but I have been told that it is far more difficult to get a job these days and it has made me nervous.

I can't think of anything I'd rather do, but TBH most of my family (read Mum) are being discouraging about me even going to uni as I have just split from my husband.

I have spoken to the tutor of the course and he has told me they have reduced their entry quota to match demand. He feels graduates should be able to get jobs as long as they are willing to be flexible about the location, which I will be (despite protestations from my ex!). Am I right to go for this, or is it too risky?

A friend of mine graduated last year and applied to several schools. She got 3 acceptances. All i remember is she chose a school in Neasden and rejected the one in Tottenham .. can't remember the 3rd.
Not ideal locations, but she was so excited about beginning to teach yr4.
Good luck!

if it is your dream job and you are flexible about where you can live, then why not? I think you should as you may never get the opportunity to have the flexibility again and although it is harder to get jobs, it is not impossible... my mate just finished primary and all her course got jobs reasonably locally.... it is not that bad...

Thanks, that has made me feel a bit easier. I have just split from my OH, so do not have to consider him (well maybe a little bit) if I need to move area. I would prefer to stay local, but am a realist and would be willing to look around. Anyway, thanks again ladies.

Like all jobs if you are good you will find a job! Your maturaity (am guessing you may be older than 21) will count for and against you depending who is offering you a job.

The hours are long - I am in my 5th year of teaching - and it very stressful! But it is fun, although having said that do dream of giving it all up and being a SAHM (with the paycheque!). Grass is always greener and all that!

Hi Cazzy,

You are right...I am "mature" (I use that term loosely) at 32. I have a DD 21 months, am separated from my OH and have always wanted to teach since doing an NNEB at 19, but I didn't have the confidence back then. I am a SAHM, but now that I am single (albeit lodging with parents), I need to be able to support us in the future and would like the pension lol!

I know the hours can be long, and I also know that I wouldn't be able to take on a huge anmount of extra responsibility...but I can live with that.

Thanks again for your help!
