sling in cold weather

What do you dress your babies in for sling wearing? Today dd, six months, was in vest baby grow, cardigan, hat and her brother's socks. I was thinking of getting a thinthin fleece all in one but would she be too hot?

It's a rose and rebellion if that' makes a difference - so not wrapped in material particularly.

I just put DD in a snowsuit in really cold weather. You could also go with layering but buy an Ergo weather cover (also covers up the lovely R&R print sadly). I'd think a fleece all-in-one would be ideal for cold, dry days.

Depends - is she over or under your coat? If under, just indoor clothes plus cardigan, hat and thick socks. Maybe not even the cardigan, in this weather. If she's over your coat, then a too-big fleece onesie (too big so her toes aren't squished in the frog-leg position) would work, but nothing slippery or padded.

You can get special baby wearing coats, or just buy an xxl fleece. It's so much easier to just take off one coat than to faff around with taking out of sling, undressing, re-slinging etc every time you go inside. I bought a special baby wearing coT second time around, and it was the best thing I bought by far. Only worth it if you carry the baby most days, but if you do, it's so useful.

I have dd under my baby wearing coat (Lenny lamb one), so today she was just in a long sleeve t shirt, leggings and moccon slipper socks. Also obviously a woven wrap so that's another layer.

I find it really difficult to wrap properly over thick or slippery layers like snow suits, so tend to layer up with fleece jumper, baby leg warmers over leggings, older sibling socks on over her own socks etc, then have her under my coat. Then I usually find her getting too hot and grumpy! Her sister was the same - little hot water bottle :)

Hat, thick socks, usual clothes, light fleece all in one then here's the magic trick....if it's very cold or windy have a blanket which you wrap all around the outside of the sling to keep extra snug and protect from the wind. Some mums seem to forget how cold it would be on babys back because these slings are not wind proof. If it's snowing you need a snowsuit and the blanket.

LemonBreeland · 22/10/2014 20:38

I used to put baby legwarmers on DD. This site is great. www.tinynippers.co.uk/clothing/leg-warmers
It is only really the legs and feet that get really cold.

Misty9 · 22/10/2014 22:22

Thanks all. I do love those leg warmers lemon so might have to get some despite big brother's socks doing the same job Grin

A cheap fleece onesie is on the list too. I think it's easy to forget how cold the exposed parts can get when they're not moving around. She's usually over my coat as it doesn't fit round both of us.

I've been wondering the same thing now it's getting rainy. Can't decide how to keep us both dry while using the ringsling?

Misty9 · 23/10/2014 03:54

I had a raincoat on and the buggy rain cover over dd in the sling the other day! Had to hold with one hand so not practical for more than a quick dash though.

I used to borrow one of dh's north face coats and tuck dd inside in her sling. It was north scotland, a very cold winter and the dog had to be walked. We were both toasty.

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 23/10/2014 10:54

I use DH's coat over the both of us. Hat and extra socks. She snuggles herself in and is a hot baby anyway so doesn't get cold yet. DH's coat is windproof. If raining I tuck the hood of the coat over her head. My mum has now offered to buy us a cover for sling as we use it daily for dog walks.

Littlef00t · 24/10/2014 19:03

In my bundle of clothes from a friend there were some fleecy trousers with feet. A bit like the bottom of a baby grow snipped off, but with elastic for the waist. I put them on over whatever she's wearing.

katandkits · 24/10/2014 19:07

I put tights under the babygro for extra warmth. If its really cold I use a fleece sleepsuit. I have waterfall cardigans so they can wrap around the baby too.

BertieBotts · 24/10/2014 19:10

Just buy a bigger coat or borrow your DH's fleece and wear over both of you. And an umbrella or just a rainhat type thing for them.

Misty9 · 24/10/2014 20:12

Dh is smaller than me.... Blush fleecy trousers sound a good idea. I think I'm going to buy a cheap fleece sleepsuit from primark or somewhere - also pondering something like a bundle bean (or something like that) for waterproof ness.
