Feel like only person in world with 2.9 dd who is not ready to potty train - anyone else out there? Fed up with sneers from other mums .

2y9m is not that late for PPT, so try not to worry and try to ignore the other mums. I have known several children PT after the age of 3; definitely not uncommon at all.

Wordsmith · 02/10/2006 08:43

Wait till she's ready, then it will be easier and she'll do it faster. Take your cuse from her. And tell the other mums to f* off!

Sorry, cues I mean

ds1 was 3.3 when he was clean and dry - 2 weeks later it happened at might too, so it's not all bad!

Elibean · 02/10/2006 09:16

You must know some competitive mums! My dd is 2.10 and has been potty trained for about six weeks, but about a third of her little friends (same age, more or less) are still in nappies.

They're busy steaming ahead with other skills, anyway

blackCATsandbroomsticksJ · 02/10/2006 09:26

My twin girls were 3 in June and have only just been potty trained in the last few weeks. If it's any consolation they only took a week each to get the idea so I'm sure the later you leave it the easier it can be

colditz · 02/10/2006 09:34

If you start when they are two, they will be reliable when the are three.

If you start when they are two and a half, they will be reliable when they are three.

If you start when they are three, they will be reliable when they are three!

Don't put yourself though misery by doing it before she is ready. Waste of time IMHO.

Thanks folks - obviously I am not the only one in the world after all. Wish you lot were at my playgroup!

My DD starting using the potty at 3.1, DS shows little interest yet at 2.3. Your DD will do it when she is ready, and you won't have to put up with all those accidents I think we had maybe 3 accidents. Then within the month, she decided to use the toliet instead of potty. I never had to carry a potty about, as by 3 she was able to hold on for us to find somewhere.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 02/10/2006 11:33

Can't remember when DD did it, but 2.9 DS still isn't showing signs of being ready. Am trying to 'talk it up' ('When you're a big boy, you'll be wearing pants - won't that be good' etc), but not actually doing anything about potty training yet.

venusinfurs · 02/10/2006 11:43

Both of my boys were over three. Honestly, Helgand, don't let them bother you. I do know what a source of worry it is, but 2.9 really isn't late by anyone sane's standards.

crinklechunk · 02/10/2006 14:28

My youngest was 3 in August and we have only just got him trained in the last month. He still has 'accidents' several times a week particularly at pre school

Twoandabump · 02/10/2006 14:43

To be honest don't worry. ALl children are different. Ds1 was 3 and 4 months before he went into pants, and then had accidents, while ds2 was 2 in July and seems keen to do it. We let them choose their pants (well, nice pink and purple pack of knickers in ds1's case!!) and thenthey have a reason not to want to wet their lovely new clothes. Worked for us!
