How much physical activity does your 2 year old need?

I know they're all different and have different preference / requirements but I'm just wondering on average?

We tend to be in the park/ playground for 2-3 hours. Sometimes it's been four hours if there's been lots of pottering about/ den building/ mud pie making etc. I'm just wondering if this is enough. Or too much. As with everything to do with my first child, I've no idea what's "normal" Smile if indeed there is such a thing. So just wanted to see the range of differences in everyone else, if you don't mind!

i have read they need a minimum of 3 hours a day of running/jumping/climbing....

Minimum!

I'm 20 weeks pregnant...was hoping for it to be less to justify leaving park earlier Wink

I do half hour in the park some days, other days it's 3 hours, sometimes 2.5 hours at a toddler group is good or a day at home where we play in the garden or indoors or what not.

We tend to follow the lead of the DC but vary it a lot as I get bored quicker than they do.

Mine gets about the same as yours.

Little kids do seem to need a lot of active supervision in the park so if your feeling a bit rough with your pregnancy I can see why you'd want to cut it short.

Mine is quite good at amusing himself in a safe indoor area.
For example, we have a playgroup with a little climbing frame and ride on toys- all visible from the mums chairs.
I also take him to a very quiet, little kid focused soft play. I find he's able to get a good run around without too much effort on my part.

Would something like that work for you?

I do it in shorter sessions so we might have some activity at home or in the garden, then some time at a toddler group, soft play or someone's house and usually a trip to the park for an hour or so.

He very rarely stops moving except when he is asleep so I think it all adds up to quite a bit, but around 3 hrs of intentional activity iyswim!

We tend to go out to a playgroup in the morning for an hour and a half and then go out to the park for two-three hours. He loves climbing / swinging / balancing and we used to go to family parkour but I can't do that now I'm pregnant and I don't feel like it's fair to expect other people to take him - it's two hours of both parent and child climbing and vaulting and balancing.

The playgroups are either the regular indoor kind with trikes and toys or we go to outdoor forest school type groups. He still runs around a lot at the indoor groups but it never feels like a proper run around indoors!
