I'm looking for new ideas on how to entertain my 2yr old DS (or how he could entertain himself).
So all suggestions of games, toys etc are very welcome.
He absolutely loves cars and plays with them all the time and carries them around etc, but I would also like to interest him in some new things/games.
He already had a wooden train set and like this too.

What do your 2 year olds do at home?

Mini play kitchen, doctor briefcase set, Lego duplo, Happy Hopperz Inflatebale, dolls house, interactive books (the ones with buttons that make noises), puzzles, sticker books, hungry hippos game. Probably loads more but that should get you started.

DD just turned 2 started preschool last week so we've discovered new things to play with that we haven't got at home.

The first thing she asks for when we get there is scissors. She will happily sit there for ages cutting up play dough with scissors.

She also likes tapping away at an old computer keyboard. It's not attached to anything but she likes sitting there phone to her ear, tapping away at the keyboard like a bugsy malone secretary.

Dinosaurs are a big hit at the moment. Also helps with teeth brushing as she gets to brush the dinosaurs teeth.

Not quite what you asked for, yes its more cars, but how about this game?

Haven't got a 2yo anymore but when I did they enjoyed things like cleaning windows and dusting. Dd also loved cleaning the bathroom sink.

My DGodS is 2 and he loves cardboard tubes taped to the inside of the patio door. You can put things like duplo or cars underneath and get him to post them into the top and they should drop in a box at the bottom. It looks a bit like this Smile

The mini kitchen is always a big win, especially with playdoh or dried pasta so that DD can actually 'cook' something herself.

Jumping on the bed playing Hide and Two Little Monkeys for sodding hours...

Doctors Kit too.

Sorting the pegs into different colours is a good one too, you could even get him to sort his cars I to different colours. If he doesn't know his colours yet, paint or colour onto pieces of paper and lay them on the floor so that he can match them up. So you paint a small of red and lay that on the floor, then green, blue etc.

Watching with interest for ideas for ds1 who turns 2 in December. So got birthday and Xmas to think about!

Like the idea of some child friendly scissors. Anyone recommend a good pair? Maybe he could cut some some old magazines?!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 20/10/2014 13:41

Bot we just used a cheapy pair. My dd loved cutting, we put her together a cutting box. It was just an old takeaway box, DS decorated a label for it and we put things like straws, coloured card and some pictures in it. Kept her amused for ages. DS wouldn't cut stuff out at 2 if his life had depended on it Smile

Drawing, especially lying on the kitchen floor to do it. Terrorising sister, cat, dog. Moving items around in the garden.

But mostly...cars and trains. Lining them up, making car parks, taking them through tunnels, pretending we're going on journeys, packing picnics and suitcases (imagined ones), filling them with 'freight'.

I don't worry about the vehicles. It's all great play and learning.

Asleeponasunbeam · 20/10/2014 21:04

Also doctors and vets kits, sister's playmobil, toy farm.

But mostly vehicles!

Pack of felt pens :-)

Thanks for all the suggestions.
We do have a playkitchen, but lately it's been used as a car park, maybe some dried pasta and playdough will make it more interesting again.
Scissors seems a good idea too, I'd never thought of this.
Another thing I just discovered is word flash cards - only in 2 days he has learned so many new words! But this we do together, otherwise the cards are just all over the floor in about 1.5 seconds.
