Sorry...but can you tell me about post-weaning poo?

My dd is 7.5 mo. Been weaning about 6 weeks. We do BLW at breakfast and lunch, dinner is a bit more mushy and followed by yoghurt with fruit. I offer water at each meal and she's pretty good with the sippy cup, lots goes down her front. She's otherwise mainly BF with the odd bottle. I've not noticed her dropping feeds as yet.

Her poos seem quite hard/solid. For the last week or so she's been going 6+ times a day, not much each time, each one pretty solid. She always goes more when teething but I thought teething poos were runny? Is this normal or is the hard poo thing a sign she's constipated?

Any info or advice gratefully received. Thanks.

DS was like this when we first started weaning; we didn't really think anything of it until he seemed to be straining more and we spotted something on the net that suggested it was constipation Blush Anyway, we started giving him weetabix for breakfast, and upped his water and fruit intake (rasperries and strawberries seemed to work well), and now he's back to everything being a bit squishier Confused

Great link, thanks. Looks like she's a bit constipated then. I'll up the fruit and water as you suggest and see how we get on. Thanks.

Lots of babies’ have trouble adjusting to solids, whether they're puree fed or BLW. There is definitely a period of adjustment which is accompanied by some constipation. I don't think it will last too long, but like any of these things it seems to last ages when you're worrying about it.
Diluted prune juice help in constipation. If her poo is hard, like little marbles, she is constipated, whether she goes a few times a day or less. Try to stick to lot of fruits and veggies, as they have a lot of fibres which bulks up the poo. Also increase her fluid intake (juice/water/BF). Avoid rice and bananas if you baby is constipated, but these foods are great if your baby has diarrhoea, they help to stop it up.

Thanks Mrs Taylor. We seem to have resolved it for now but will keep the water and fruit intake up a bit.

And marbles is a good description - that's what they were! Starting to soften now.
