Leaking nappies disturbing sleep.

I'm just after some advice if anyone else has suffered from this problem.

I have a 6.5 month old DS and at least 3-4 times a week he's waking up soaked in urine. I have tried using the next sized nappy up but it makes no difference.

I'm up with him now because he woke up as his vest, baby-gro and 2.5tog sleep suit were saturated with urine.

The usual nightly pattern is as follows:

His nappy is put on for bedtime at 7pm and then DS is fed. He is usually asleep for 7.30-8pm. He then usually wakes between 1-2am for a feed. I check his nappy at this point and it is usually slightly damp but certainly not wet as in needing to be changed.

On some occasions I have changed him anyway, even though he really doesn't need it, in order to put a bone dry nappy on him but it leads to a hysterical meltdown in the early hours of the morning and then it takes me ages to get him back to sleep.

After his 1-2am feed he then usually wakes up 3 hours later and is soaked through Sad

He sleeps on his front, I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Even when I don't change his damp nappy there's know way that such a small amount of urine already present in the nappy is the reason for such a huge soaking a few hours down the line.

I just don't know what to do to address the problem. I'm sure DS's sleep would be much better if I could prevent this from happening.

When you say the nappy is leaking, where is it leaking? Which bit of his clothes are wet?

In general, try some different brands. If you have friends who use others you could do some swaps to avoid buying whole boxes.

Every I know loves Aldi nappies though. Have you tried them? They're so cheap.

A lot of people advocate ALDI so I will certainly look into it!

When he is wet it is always on his front which I assumed was down to him sleeping on his front?

Last night there was actually enough to soak through both layers of his clothes and soak his 2.5tog sleeping bag. Usually it's just his vest and baby-gro. His sleeping bag is quite thick so to make that all wet too must mean there is a lot of Urine bring produced!!

When you put the nappy on make sure his willy is pointing down - good luck!

Woke up at 1.30am as predicted and managed to get through a nappy change without it leading to hysteria by distracting him by singing to him Smile

His nappy was very wet so I'm glad I did it. I'm just feeding him now and I'm optimistic that we can make it through to morning with no leakages!!

What I mean, OP, was that my DD would also leak at the front...the urine was produced at the front, she lay on her front and the front of the nappy therefore filled more quickly. She'd leak through by her tummy but the back of the nappy was still dry. So I now put her in her nappy and then pull the material round so there is as much absorbent material at the front as possible. And hold it in place with knickers. Hoicking it round!!

I use Lidl's and they haven't leaked yet, 18 month old who drinks a lot.

Do you make sure that the elastic around the legs is nice and flat and snug? So no gaps if that makes sense? As I never knew this until someone said Blush

After much trial and washing we now use three (count em!) different types of nappy! Pampers stay dry for over night (never leaked, even when very, very full), pampers active fit for most of the day then Asda little angels for when he does a massive poo at 6 o clock and will be changed soon after. The stay dry in particular are really good-we get them on offer at Boots so get Parenting club points too.

Size 3 little angel nappies are leaking on my 6 month old dd; changing back to size 4 sainsbury as soon as possible! I'd double check his willy is pointing down but for heavy wetter ds we always used bamboo cloth night nappies, little lamb and bamboozle stretchy with a wrap.

Unfortunately dd likes to poo in the night since weaning started, and I can't ignore that. Wakes her up completely. Currently ignoring her in the hope she'll feed back to sleep...

We had the same problem with my son. In the end, the only way to deal with it was to put a maternity sanitary pad inside either a normal size nappy, or a size up. We used pampers or boots nappies. Found asda to be really bad and even leaked even the day. Aldi and lidl's ok but not great - but they all leaked at night anyway! We then put a plastic nappy liner (like those used for washable nappies) and that MOSTLY worked! It took us ages of trial and error to get to that point. I must say, our problems started more at 12 months as before that I was still night feeding and would change nappies and pyjamas. As he got older, he got harder to get back to sleep and it became more of an issue if he woke. It seems to be more of a boy thing and no amount of changes to our routine helped, until he became dry day and night when 2.9 months.

My ds is 7 months and we have the same problem! Leaks at the front through vest pjs and grobag Hmm he is in size 4+ pampers stay dry! Do you think we could try a sanitary pad as extra protection As he just gets so wet and it also disturbs his sleep?
We use Tesco own brand during day, he definately wees more at night than daytime x

merlehaggard · 26/10/2014 01:17

I found the sanitary pad really made a difference. I just bought the cheapest asda's own maternity or heavy use ones, and just stuck it on where his willy was.

marymouse · 26/10/2014 04:29

I've always used two nappies on my ds's on a night and never had any problems

Pampers worked great for my baby, but they are not the only one.

There are several brand with pros and cons

Some choose to get the next size diaper, but using the overnight diaper worked welll for me. No leaks!
