Nappy failure, HELP!

DS is 18 months and for the last few weeks every single night his nappy isn't doing it's job. He wakes up soaked, his body, his clothes, his sleep sack and all the way to his mattress. I've tried every make I can get my hands on (not in UK so fairly limited). I've gone up to size 5 and then size 6. But none of it makes a difference.

Is there anything I can do other than getting extra bedding and a tumble dryer?

I know someone who puts on 2 nappies - a normal one with another over the top but back to front. She swears by it at night. Worth a try?

I'm willing to give it a go. Not sure how it would work though as the leak is from the side. But desperate times and all that ...

Had this exact issue with DS1. We cut down his bed time bottle as he was having about 9oz.

Try cutting bed time drinks down, or changing nappy when you go to bed. Smile

I second changing the nappy when you go to bed, as well, or if you wake up in the night.

Maybe a different brand? Sometimes it's the fit.

LiverpoolLou · 17/10/2014 11:31

The thought of changing it when we go to bed fills me with horror. It's been quite a battle to get to the point where he's sleeping through. I'm not sure my nerves could cope with the risk of undoing that.

The double nappy idea has got me thinking though. Would it be really, really weird to get something like tena pads and put one in his night time nappy to double up the absorbing capacity?

Cloth nappies are the only thing that keeps DD reliably dry at night - even then we use lots of boosters and it's mainly the waterproof wrap that stops leaks - the nappy is soaked by morning. DD's sleep is not great so there is no way I am risking a wake up by changing a nappy when I go to bed. I keep meaning to move bedtime milk earlier but it's the last thing she does at night and such a big part of her routine....

Instead of double nappies which will be a bit expensive, what about reusable nappy booster put inside normal nappy? You can also get disposable ones but the reusable ones are so cheap on eBay, and easy to wash.

LiverpoolLou · 17/10/2014 11:47

DS is the same with his bedtime milk. I really don't want to fiddle with how bedtime works, took too much work to get there.

Off to google 'nappy booster'.

I used to put a cloth nappy, folded into an oblong, inside the disposable for my son.

Size 5 nappy with size 6 on top.

Size 5 nappy with wrap on top (Motherease, Blueberry or Disana).

Size 5 5 nappy with a bamboo booster (Little Lambs) and wrap on top.

Bamboo nappy (Little Lambs or Tots Bots), possibly boosted with nappy wrap on top.

stargirl1701 · 17/10/2014 16:05

Or, a hemp booster?

A reusable nappy wrap like Little Lamb with some boosters?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/10/2014 16:46

Came on to suggest a booster and a wrap over the top but have seen that its already been suggested Smile

Try getting him to drink plenty and to have some water rich foods in the morning too.
