I'm having no luck giving my 3mo his vit d drops, currently trying the nhs ones as only need 5 drops but the bottles are so rubbish it takes ages for the drops to come out and he's just crying :-( he won't take a bottle so can't do that. have seen some bf drops online and a spray but only from 6m...Any tips?!

Put it on your nipple before a feed Smile

even the banana NHS drops? have seen the d drops that's just one drop for bf - but I suppose same principle applies? (have no brain at the mo!)

Can't you use a syringe?

DS was prem so has to have vitamins and iron every day. We were given a small syringe - like a mini version of the Calpol ones - to measure out the iron. I found that I can put the vitamin drops onto a spoon and then suck them into the syringe quite easily. They only amount to about 0.2ml and are easy to squirt into his mouth. We were advise to squirt into cheek area.

I'm sure you could get something like this from a pharmacy.

Good luck!

Isabeller - dd was also prem and had the same

This thread has reminded me of her disgusted little face when we gave her the iron drops Smile

Yes I used the nipple method no problem. 3 drops on one then 3 drops on the other side when I changed side. Seemed the easiest no fuss way to go about it.

Hope it works for you too

I used the syringe method, sometimes mixed with a little expressed milk.

thanks - v stupid qu but you don't have to sterilise the spoon / syringe do you...? Blush Blush

I would if it was a siringe ...Just stick both both in some boiling water . Our vit bottles had the sqeeze top with the dropper inside and a line on it showing where 5 drops and 10 drops were ...so easy and quick.

I spoon fed them on a little plastic spoon with some breastmilk. Easy.

I did stick the spoon in the steriliser, but I don't think it's necessary if you wash with hot soapy water/dishwasher.
