Is a duvet day such a bad thing for a toddler?

My DD has just turned 2, has a cold and is clingy as sin, prone to wanting me to carry her round the house and / or throwing tantrums (and she makes herself sick). In short being very hard work.

We normally watch a bit of CBeebies on and off throughout the day; but i've just plonked us both on the sofa and put a film on - is this such a bad thing?

Sounds like a sensible plan.

gamerchick · 08/10/2014 14:32

Nope sounds like a plan.

MummyBeerest · 08/10/2014 14:33

Not at all. Hope she's better soon!

I thought it's what you HAD to do.

JuniperTisane · 08/10/2014 14:34

I would do the same. Its fine.

Thurlow · 08/10/2014 14:34

Good lord, no! On days like this it doesn't matter if it ends up being 12 solid hours of TV. Anything that gets you through!

5madthings · 08/10/2014 14:35

Nope I have done the same with my three year old the past two days as she is full of cold, has chesty cough and has had a bit of a temp. She has even fall asleep having long ago given up a daytime nap.

She has been a complete limpet and I opted for an easy day.

It's fine and the rest will do her good, hope she is better soon.

GingerDoodle · 08/10/2014 14:40

Phew thank you all for the kind words. We're usually really active and I've been avoiding vegging but now I don't feel so bad for introducing her to the Chronicles of Narnia.

Everyone has to veg sometimes. Imagine what you'd want to do if you felt poorly, and let her do it too.

Misty9 · 08/10/2014 15:09

I just wish my three year old would watch telly for more than a few minutes! He's ill with a chesty cough and cold but insists on running around talking nineteen to the dozen until he's hoarse and, yes, tired. Then he has frustrated tantrums. Sigh.
Hope she feels better soon.

Sounds lovely and is exactly what we do. I take the day off work and we both snuggle on the sofa with films. While I don't like seeing DS poorly, I secretly get a tiny bit happy about being able to just sit and comfort him.

I tend to bundle them in the buggy when one is under the weather. crash air always helps (someone)

AnythingNotEverything · 09/10/2014 22:45

It's fine for today, but tomorrow you need to send her straight back up that chimney Wink

Mamabear12 · 09/10/2014 23:06

No, sometimes this is what you have to do when kids are sick! They might not have much energy to do things...but a little cartoons or reading some books will comfort them. I remember once when my daughter was sick with fever...40 c! All day, she was just lying in bed...watching cartoons...napping and watching cartoons. She was only 18 months at the time...but it was all she wanted to do...lie in bed w me, watch cartoons and sleep. She was thankfully fine after day and cut two teeth shortly after! She always got the highest fevers right before cutting teeth (i freaked out the first few times!)

We do this pretty much every Tuesday. The rest of the week is go, go, go. So I keep Tuesdays as our lazy, lounge around in pjs day.

ipswichwitch · 10/10/2014 19:30

I thought it was compulsory when DC are poorly - like Calpol!
We sometimes have a lazy Sunday, spending the day in pj's, films on and just general slobbing about. The DC are up so early trough the week for nursery, and they have fairly long days too. Sometimes a day of doing very little is a necessity.
