For a colleagues baby. I read somewhere this is rather "organic" with RL abimal sounds. Would make recipient laugh. BUT is it any buyer really than others? Mine are thankfully long past this.

I don't get this Confused

I have this playmat. It's lovely, bought for me by a friend, so very generous obviously, but one of the nicer ones i think

Eastpoint · 08/10/2014 06:08

That just looks like a play mat to me. Nicer colours than some. My DCs had a black, white & red mat, when they were little there was a lot of talk about infant brain development & the importance of black & white toys.

Apparently not for one reviewer who has wooden floors, natch.

Not massively padded, I set it on our living room rug for a bit of extra cushioning

We had this, my boy wasn't impressed. Some friends had a fisher Price one with brighter colours and a musical bit, that was far more successful. But then my nephew had it too and liked it. Guess it depends on the baby! There's a lovely Lamaze one I'd get if I was doing it again.

overmydeadbody · 08/10/2014 06:30

I don't understand playmats but that one is nicer than some I have seen.

aphrodites · 10/10/2014 14:30

It depends on the baby, we had another style of the SH baby gyms and it was rarely used, I found a big mat with various soft toys/books scattered around more useful and had better longevity.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 10/10/2014 14:37

We were given a tasteful muted colours one as a present, and a Fisher Price flashing lights music playing all singing jobby as a hand me down. Guess which one we used more...?
Playmates are for occupying the baby. Get tasteful furniture, go gaudy for 5 minutes peace in the shower!

picklepoff · 10/10/2014 14:39

This is lovely but so pricey! I bought a second hand (but mint condition) fisher price jungle one with -garish- bright and cheerful colours from eBay for £20. Used by DD1,DD2 and a friend's DS and ready to be passed on to a friend with DC1. They are used for such a short time, def worth looking on eBay. Or buy new and sell on!

Sorry ladies I am a bit of a lurker but I mis read the title of the post and thought it said playmate not playmat it just made me lol

MetalLaLa · 10/10/2014 14:48

We had a Lamaze one for DD (still need to sell it!) that was folded up as a house with a rainbow handle and was a long narrow mat when folded out, with soft people and shapes hanging off it. My DD loved it and used it every day until about four months. All depends on the child if they enjoy a playmat or not.

capsium · 10/10/2014 14:54

Buy it and it is Murphy's Law that baby would prefer a set of these:

£70 for a playmat is bonkers.
