Blooming head lice! Why is my daughter so prone to the buggers?

My 10 year old daughter seems to be very prone to head lice. She has long, very thick hair but always wears it platted for school. She is very tactile and always hugging her friends which doesn't help. Her hair is kept very clean, as she has eczema on her scalp and natural oils aggravate it.
This is the second time this term she's had an infestation. We use Vosine anti head lice shampoo and the leave in repellent spray. Not sure what else we can do. I'm going to feel so embarrassed telling her teacher she's got nits again... Blush

I've heard that they prefer clean hair - though that might be a myth.

I'd guess that she has a friend who is never treated.

Get a nitty gritty comb - they are amazing but you will need to do it very regularly to start with to make sure you have got rid of them all.

Thank you both. Her best friend has just below shoulder length hair and never has it tied back.
We have got that comb and it's really good. I've seen another one advertised with a UV light so you can see the eggs as well as the lice. I might give that a go. Smile

Agree with Pico. She probably has a friend who never gets rid of them. I had this is dd's class. I found the repellent spays didn't help so made my own.

Get a spray bottle. Fill with water. Add 20 drops tea tree oil. 20 drops lavedar oil and some sweet almond oil.. about a teaspoon. Shake well before use. Spray on each morning.

That sorted it

There are two schools of thought.

Either, she is getting them from a friend who is constantly infested or, you're never quite clearing all of them.

How often do you check and how many are you finding? If you find more than a couple of live ones she's had them for quite a while. No-one comes home "infested" on the day they caught them IYSWIM

Thank you, that's brilliant. I'll make some of that spray. I'll be more gentle on her scalp too. Smile
