My newborn is long with big feet, help with grows?

Hiya, baby grace at 11 days old us long and skinny with really big feet. She has always been too big for 'newborn' sizes so have had her in 'up to one month' which fit her body but her feet are getting stuck and squashed and when she pulls her legs right up she pulls them out and her legs can get stuck in the body section. But 0-3 months swamp her width wise and her fall off her shoulders.
Can we cut the feet of her grows and put her in socks? Will her feet be ok in socks all the time?
Can I buy long grows? Or will this only be for a week or two more?
Any help will be much appreciated x

Cut the feet off the grows and bung socks on :) I did this with both my dc mainly for financial reasons. Works brilliantly :)

You can buy footless baby grows in h+m, babies are fine in socks but they do tend to fall off, ones which roll up tend to stay on better, or even tights under a babygrow if it's chilly!

Congratulations! One day she'll be very glad to have long legs! Thanks

Socks will be fine, get the ones which you can turn over as they won't dig in and can be pulled up to the knees. Congrats on Grace (all my dc wee every long and I had the same problem:)).

Of course you can open up her babygros and put her in socks. Just make sure that the socks are roomy and not snug around her feet.

I, too, had a flipper-feet child Smile.

Congratulations, BTW (and don't mention her name on threads - call her dd).

SoftSheen · 05/10/2014 15:38

We had exactly the same problem with DD!

Sainsbury's babygrows tend to be relatively long and narrow and we found them to fit better than some other brands (Tesco and Asda were the worst).

You could also just buy footless baby grows and use them with socks, or a combo of tights, long-sleeved bodysuit and a soft dress/smock.

Ooh yes we did this we cut the feet off babygros and put socks on!

You can buy things to keep the socks on called Sockons. They really work! The Sockons company also makes Moccons slipper socks which I bought for my nephew - his parents said they were really good and stayed on well.

See Sockons.co.uk

Another thing I did was buy tiny tights. Stick a long sleeved vest over the top and done.

BikeRunSki · 06/10/2014 05:41

Yes, this is what I did. Six years later I still have a box of tiny feet I am too soft to throw away. You can also get babygrow type things without feet. Boots and TKMaxx often have them. Called romper suits or playsuits. Boden usually have them too.

BikeRunSki · 06/10/2014 05:49

this type of thing

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 06/10/2014 05:52

Also, Boots, Gap and Babies R Us baby grows are all long and thin - have same with my DD. Avoid Mamas and Papas, you will waste your money - they are tiny.

Congrats.Thanks

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 06/10/2014 05:54

The only socks that stayed on my newborn were the 'trumpette' ones - pricey but so good.

AngryBeaver · 06/10/2014 06:03

Have the same! Either cut the feet off and sew a hem. Or buy footloose ones. Baby gap socks are the best, those suckers stay put Grin
Congratulations on baby Grace Thanks

BikeRunSki · 06/10/2014 06:04

My long thin DS has always been "Next shaped"

This is a generally good policy for whatever but of baby stuff you are buying. Clothes are tiny, most other stuff has no longevity, customer service awful and not cheap (but not good quality either).

Mothercare seem to do big feet grows, also John Lewis have the longest legged grows I've ever seen! My 5 month old is out of 3-6 in all brands but the voluminous 6-9 I've got from John lewis are way too big Confused

Pico2 · 06/10/2014 19:03

We bought footless baby grows - sometimes called rompers for DD who had long legs. I don't remember her wearing socks much, but she wasn't a cold baby. We found the Boden ones to be really good - they popper up both legs and up the middle. They are quite pricy - so we bought some second hand on eBay. These are the ones. I've now got my fingers crossed that DC2 turns out to be a girl as they are eye-wateringly expensive.

We also inherited some baby grows with the feet cut off. If you already have the right size then I'd just cut the feet.
