Pocket money for older teens.

I have a 17 yr old DD and at the moment I pay for all transport to college, lunch money, phone contract, driving lessons and essential clothes, such as underwear, hair cuts, birthday/christmas gifts for relatives. She pays for her make up, clothes, transport to work, birthday gifts for friends and me and her dad.

She has a part time job alongside college and earns around £50 a week.

I have told her once she turns 18 she has to pay for her own phone and gifts for relatives.

I was talking to a friend and she was horrified by this and says she pays for everything for her 18 yr old DD, despite her having a job and only expetcs her wages to cover nights out. She is even paying for her DDs girls holiday in July.

Have I got this wrong? Do most people cover all their older teens costs? As a comparison me and DH can only afford around £25 a week each "fun money" which covers clothes, nights out and wine at home, so she already has more than us!!
