Terry nappies

I have got two DD's age 9 months and 3.5 years and I have just been given a pile of terry nappies and loads of traditional plastic pants. I would love to start using them because it will save me a fortune. Has anyone here used terry nappies on an older child 3+ years? I would love to hear any success stories. Reply here or private message me.

Thanks.

I used them on my DS between age of 2 and 2.7 years when he became toilet trained.

Is there a medical reason why your older child still needs nappies?

I agree with you that it saves a fortune!

At first DS found the plastic feeling if the waterproof wrap a bit strange, but he got used to it.

Also, terry is nowhere near as absorbent as disposable nappies, so you'll be changing them approx every 2 hours.

We have used Terries for all five children and would not use anything else if, which we are not currently intending, we had number 6. They are flexible from birth to potty, cheap, quick to dry, adaptable to different sizes and shapes and can be used in multiples at night for older children if necessary, though bigger than standard 60cm ones are available too. (When he got older our eldest said they were more comfortable than the disposables we tried on holiday once - he said, and you could see what he meant, that there was a lot of sticky plastic touching him with disposables. What is more the disposables leaked because there was nothing absorbent at the side.) We have always used 'old fashioned' plastic pants and have had very few leaks either by day or night over the years and none of the children suffered nappy rash to any great extent - a little skin reddening when teething sometimes but nothing that was in any sense a true rash. I'd encourage anyone to give terries a try - the Nappy Lady site has a whole range of folds to try. My DH was sceptical at first but cash was quite a good argument and we are sure we have saved a very great deal of money over the years, especially as they were all, as my GP kindly put it, 'at the upper end of normal' for becoming dry at night! Good luck with it all - there is something quite good about seeing a line of fluffy white nappies blowing in the breeze. I do not know how thick the ones you have been given are but some modern ones are not nearly as absorbent as our oldest ones, although the old ones have done several children. I still look in the heap for the old Harringtons Gold Seal ones, which are no longer available, to use at night for DS3.
