Potty Training - showing signs but not verbal

DS will be 2 next week and has been showing signs of being interested in potty training for a few months. He's very interested when I go for a wee and often asks to have his nappy off to go for a wee on the potty (he points and says wee wee). Plus he knows when he is doing a poo and tells me before he has done one normally.
I've been told these are The Signs.
However he's not really verbal yet. He has a wide vocabulary of single words now and is putting them together - big car, read it, that way etc, poor bunny etc.
I had always thought I would potty train late - so next summer - , however does anyone with more experience of parenting think I should give it a go now? I really have no idea but my sister reckons if you miss the window, it can be more tricky later.

DS started training very early about 17mo totally led by him I had planned to wait until the spring after he was 2 but he had other ideas. I used pull ups for 7 months until he was 2 because I felt he was not good enough at communicating to let me know in enough time that he wanted to go and he could only hold it for a very short period after telling me 5 mins at most.

I would deff try just now if he's interested around 2 speech jumps ahead so if you were to gently do some training with pull ups led by him for a while you might find quickly he will be ready to go in pants. If you use pull up's don't use them as a nappy though treat them as pants so if you are in the supermarket or car and they need to go you still need to stop and go through the motions. I think there are a lot of horror stories about potty training but I only know a couple of people who have had trouble if you get it at the right time and keep it calm it's not so bad.

Ok, that's a great tip. Thanks very much!
