Night time training trauma - please help!

DD1 has been dry in the day since just after her 2nd birthday, but is still not even nearly dry at night at 4.3.

We weren't going to push it, as we've just had DD2 and she'd just started school, but we ran out of pull ups and we all wanted to try without. So for the last few nights we've gone without. DH takes her to the loo at 9.30 and at 11pm, but she's often weed by then and will normally wee again before morning.

The main problem is that doing a wee doesn't wake her up like we assumed it would - she's quite happy to sleep in a wet bed. So what do we do? Should we go back to the nappies for a bit until she's adjusted to school? Or keep going with the training? Any tips, advice or opinions very gratefully accepted!

Go back to the nappies, she is not ready yet. There is a hormone that needs to kick in first and it isn't considered a problem until aged 7.

I have a 6 yo who is still in night nappies and a 2 yo who is dry at night. There is such a wide variation.

does she wear pj's or a nightdress? the reason i ask is that we managed to get ds1 dry at night by taking his pj bottoms off as i think the feeling of elastic around his waist was a similar feeling to a nappy. the other thing we did was concentrate on the word 'dry'. we took the word 'wet' out of our vocabulary. there is a really useful book called 'potty training in less than a day; (i think thats the title - its american and i got it on amazon lots of advice) we also put a potty by the bed with a nightlight and kept it really positive and reminded him to go on the potty when he had that feeling of needing to go. we also got a baby doll from woollies about £6 that weed and had her own potty which we also put by his bed to encourage him.
best of luck it is so exhausting facing all that washing. she will get there.

Thanks a lot CK. That's a big age difference. I hadn't realised about the hormone thing. Anyone else?

Have a search on the threads. This discussion has been had a few times. Lots of reassurance there for you.

She's just in a pair of normal pants. A complication is that she sleeps in a really high bed which doesn't make it very easy for her to get out when she's sleepy (and she's going through a scared of the dark phase!)

Will check threads and check out that book - thanks!
