Can anyone do a quick calculation for me please, I'm rubbish at Maths?...I don't know if I'd be entitled to help with childcare costs if I took this job on...

A temporary part time job at £8.70 an hour Mon-Fri from mid November to Christmas. If I'm not needed on a particular day I'll still get paid for two hours.

I would have to put both children into childcare as I'm a lone parent, which costs £73.50 a week for both up to 6pm.

I'm currently on JobSeekers Allowance, Child Tax Credit, Child Benefit and also receive council tax benefit and housing benefit (£450 award although the rent is £525 so I have a shortfall).

Thankyou Flowers

How many hours a day would you be working?

Governent Childcare scheme pays 75% towards your childcare costs, but I can't get a straight answer frm anywhere abo whether you're still eligible if part time, zero contract hours job, temporary or permanent, etc etc.

So you'd be earning between £87 and £174 a week depending on whether you worked 4 hrs a day or none (ie paid for 2).how much is JSA? £57 a week? If so then you're better off provided you're clearing at least £140 a week I think (ie working 16hrs).

Don't forget if either child is over 3 they get 15 free hrs child care during term time and you might also get some free hrs for a child over 2?

It also depends on whether you work the rest of the year and total salary exceeds the tax free allowance (c£10k from memory) but for argument's sake assume you don't.

Citizens advice might do a more reliable job than me though. Good luck!

My children are 5 and 7, ababycalledbrian and in school.

JSA is £72.40 a week.

Why do they need to go to childcare til 6pm if you're working 9-1?
