Hi,
Just picked up dd from the childminders and was told that she has been pooing loads today and that her little bum is really sore - (in fact it s red raw!) It was quite bad yesterday, but worse today!
She apparently had done 3 really stinky nappies which were caked all over her back by 11am!!!
What could it be? and what should i do to ease her poor little bum?
haven't changed her diet and haven't changed nappies. At the moment we are using Metanium cream. Any advice would be great.

tummy bug

smear with vaseline

and leave her out of nappies for as long as you can

sprinkle bicarb of soda in a lukewarm bath

She could be teething my dd gets this when she is teeting & funny enough she has 2 little teeth poped up at the bottom.

I would bath her just in water & every time you change her nappy use the metanium cream i find this cream fantastic & clears up dd's bum in 24 hrs, i also try & air dd's bum for half hour each day it really does it the world of good.

i find both the metanium and sudocreme quite drying on my hands, plus the metanium is yellow so a bugger to get off your clothes if they wriggle. so far i prefer bepanthen (sp?) but i am going to try the bicarb trick next time.

as much nappy-free time as you dare

agree metanium is the business - very thin layer only though

Wow! Thank-you for all your quick responses. I did wonder if it was a tummy bug, she is fine in herself though, just screams the place down at nappy changing time!
She is sat on the floor now without nappy and i'll try bicarb of soda in bath tonight.
I supose teething could be the cause but only cut 2nd bottom tooth last weekend and wasn't this bad!
Thanks again ladies.

it does sound like a bug, a good treatment is chamomile tea (used this when DS had salmonella bug - he had screaming hysterics every nappy change til he was better). You make up a strong cuppa, let it cool and then soak a cotton rag or hankie in it, then put this between skin and nappy and leave on for as long as possible.

Now I know that sounds really yucky but it works a treat - the tea can also be used as a wash as well rather than baby wipes or water
