Am I MAD??? I've just applied for a job!

I really don't know what I'm thinking of! I've been teaching music from home since 2009, but after having DS, I became more ill with a connective tissue disease and couldn't return to working in a work place. I've been improving recently - I only sometimes have to have a rest in the afternoons now, but I'm still getting my support from Social Services. It's quite a tricky one - I can't lift a heavy pan or a heavy load of washing, but I can sit at a table and do filing. I can't walk very far, so I would have to get a power chair, but at the moment I only have a rusty and broken manual wheelchair.
It was all triggered by two of my kids moving in with their dad (Looong story), so we lost tax credits and child benefit for them very suddenly. DH and I want to move nearer to his mum and dad as it would halve his commute time, and we'd have their help, but obviously I'd then have to factor in paying maintenance and for my care.
Am I bonkers? I'm trying so hard to get back to normal, and sometimes I can see it, smell it and taste it, and then other times it just seems really unrealistic - but surely I'm only going to know if I try? Does anyone have any experiences that might help me with this one?

I got it! I should be starting in November - I'm quite scared as it will be the first time I've ever worked full time, and I'm a spoonie. So, now I have to try and get a power chair - I've emailed Access to Work (but see on other thread, I don't have much hope of a quick reply there!) and, ironically, I have my PIP interview tomorrow morning, which I've been waiting since December for, so if I do get that, I'm hoping to be able to use some of it for a power chair - but I'm guessing Social Services will probably want a great deal of it to go towards all the Direct Payments I've received? Confused
I've rung SS to say I have a job and will probably need a reassessment. It's all a bit scary - what if I can't manage the job?

No helpful advice here (sorry!) Just wanted to say congratulations and well done on getting the job! I hope it all works out for you.
Can SS fund or part fund the chair? I know it likely comes under health needs but could also come under access to work and employment. Make the case at your reassessment and highlight the Care Act coming into effect. No idea if the Act covers anything like this but I'm sure it will give you more clout and any decent social worker can make the argument that you need the chair to meet your social care needs.
And it is likely that PIP will go towards financial contribution for DPs but it depends on your circumstances.
Good luck Smile

I dunno - I will definitely try and suggest it - it's the only way I reckon I'm going to last out a full week!
