Please help me work out a routine for washing wipes and fleece liners

Hi

Since a color catcher sheet got stuck in our fairly new machine a couple of months ago I've been really careful about small s -including the color catcher sheets- going into mesh bags.

In about a month I will have nappies to start washing again when dc3 arrives. With dd I put wipes, fleece liners and nappies all in the same bin then washed all together problem. Now I'm worried I have to separate the wipes and liners. Does anyone do this? And will the wipes and liners get washed properly if they're in a mesh bag and not able move freely?

I use a mesh bag to line my nappy bucket so everything just gets chucked in the wash but they are open at the top so some wipes may get left in the bottom but most comes out of the bag on the wash. The ones left in the bag wash fine. I've never had a problem with wipes or fleece liners getting stuck in my machine but it is an old machine.

thanks. yes i think a few in the bag would wash ok but what i'm not sure about is if there are all the wipes in there would they still wash ok... my old machine coped fine as well with wipes and liners but this one great as it is seems to like swallowing things Confused

We have a similar problem with our machine. We use cheeky wipes which I then transfer to a larger mesh bag, then bung that into the washing machine with the nappies. I don't use fleece liners, but could you put those in the nappy bucket and then transfer to the mesh bag with the wipes in?

We had this.

I put wipes in a large mesh bag. They wash ok. Only thing is sometimes large 'bits' (e.g a bit of potato skin) can't get out of the mesh. So you have to be extra careful rinsing off the fleece. Going to try chuckable liners again with no.3, but they gave the others nappy rash.

Thank you, glad to know it should work, potatoes skin excepted lol

Penguin, we keep meeting on my threads lol, thank you for the benefit of all your experience!! Grin

What about buying a load of flannels to use as wipes so they are bigger and won't get stuck? Then don't know about fleece liners.., use disposable?

lighteningmcmama · 02/10/2014 02:40

Thank you, i have my wipes already and don't want to buy any more...and I tried disposable liners, I didn't get on with them as they never seemed to catch as much poo as the fleece, and they didn't create the stay dry layer that fleece does.

I think I might try rinsing them first in the machine in the mesh bag with a thorough rinse before i add the rest of the nappies, then maybe that will mean they're more likely to be clean with more room to move at first.

Oh, I meant to come back to this thread and it has now bumped up my list and reminded me. I think the key is plenty of space to move, so the other thing I do is I have three different mesh bags, big ones, and split them so there isn't one packed bag IYSWIM.

lighteningmcmama · 02/10/2014 20:48

That sounds like a good idea, where do you keep the other mesh bag s until you wash? I've just ordered the cheeky wipes boxes (used random Tupperware container with dd but the new cheeky wipes boxes look quite useful)

Well, it isn't actually in operation yet, but my plan is to have a dirty wipes box. Dirty wipes go into that, then full ish box gets tipped into a wash bag, zipped and thrown into the nappy bucket. Repeat until ready to do a wash. Smile

I used to put everything in a mesh bag in the machine together. I undid the bag at the top so things could get out and move around. I did a rinse in the machine before the main wash. Worked fine.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 02/10/2014 20:56

Where do you get your big mesh bags from?

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 02/10/2014 20:59

Lakeland Bit expensive but I never saw big fully zippable ones anywhere else and a lot cheaper than another visit from the repair man!

lighteningmcmama · 02/10/2014 23:18

Penguins, yes that would work, sounds v clever, thank you

Bikerunski I'm trying to avoid the wipes being loose completely in the wash as my machine tends to swallow tiny things...
