Where to sleep when grown out of Moses basket?

my DS is 4 weeks today and is very long. he won't last much longer in his Moses basket. I've bought a cot bed, which is ginormous and set up in the nursery and won't fit in our room. So what on earth dies e sleep in next?

  1. is it worth getting a crib or will he grow out of this too?
  2. do I buy a cheap ikea cot for my room?
  3. where does he have day time naps? He currently has them in Moses basket! thank you

Hi, I've just bought the graco compact bassinet travel cot for exactly this reason. DD 14 weeks and too big for Moses but too soon to put her in her own room. In the past I've bought an interim cheap cot from Ikea (for previous dcs) but this is a better solution for me as is cheap (£45 from amazon), had the bassinet feature and there's no assembly, it took me about 5 mins to erect. It's also something like 20% smaller than a normal travel cot and of course its a travel cot too so easily transportable.
Hope that helps

I'm just place marking. We will be moving when baby is about 10 months. He is in a crib which I reckon will take us to the 4-5 month mark. Really keen for a space saving cheap solution till then. I hated having bedroom taken over by the massive cot with my eldest child. (Who in answer to prev question napped in carry cot for pram till 6 months then cot).

We have a sleepyhead from john lewis and it's fantastic. It's very portable so you could take it downstairs for naps, and you can put it in your bed if you were ever to need to co-sleep.
At night we put the sleepyhead in the cot bed next to our bed, but obviously if you wanted to do that you would need to buy the sleepyhead plus a smaller cot so I suppose it depends on your budget. Dd does sleep fantastically well in the sleepy head though rather than in the cot as the cot is too big at the moment and I think she feels a bit exposed.

I just put mine in a cot when they grew out of the Moses basket. In our room first (had to move other stuff out), then into theirs later. Daytime naps were in cot.

We've got the Sleepyhead Deluxe too, and it's been great for daytime naps and co-sleeping, but our 7 week old daughter is already outgrowing it (and she's not THAT big) even though it's meant to be suitable up to 6 months. We're about to get a cotbed and I was thinking of getting the larger Sleepyhead to go in that- but it's even more stupidly expensive. We've already thrown a shed load of cash at the sleeping problem!

However izzy it might work for you given you want some flexibility?

Does the sleepyhead help with sleep? Googled it and seems to good to be true.

I moved LO from the Moses to a cot bed at 6 weeks, they love the extra space. Daytime naps are just on a soft play may on the floor or if we're out then in the car or pram..

Hey, came on here to say we bought the Sleepyhead a few months ago and my DD LOVES it (DD 22 weeks). We take it over parents house and also on holiday recently and she slept like a dream.

Its like a home from home for her.

Could you borrow a travel cot and put the Sleepyhead in there at night then move it into the front room for daytime naps?

It is a little expensive but its worked well for us.

Southpaws · 24/09/2014 11:32

Munchkin we have certainly found it excellent for sleep. With dd1 we just had a Moses and she hated it so when I was pregnant with dd2 and heard about the sleepy head I thought we would try it. She has slept in it from the first night and looks so cosy and comfy. She also naps in it whereas I always had to hold dd1 for naps. Obviously they are different babies and dd1 may have just been a bad sleeper but I'm attributing dd2's sleep to the sleepyhead!

munchkinmaster · 24/09/2014 14:19

Thanks southpaws. Baby here is a much better sleeper than my first but I really want to teach baby to self settle on own to pre empt issues (first child awful sleeper).

I bet you dh rules out as he'll not be happy with raised sides as he is super anxious about SIDS advice.

Southpaws · 24/09/2014 15:55

Yes that did cross my mind but the sides are very very firm, they are not squashy like a bumper. It would be very hard for a baby to bury its face in the sides.

We're another who used a travel for the interim.
