no one at the hospital has been able to tell me, my midwife doesnt know but apparently it is standard procedure. i have cancelled it as i am not prepared to sit in a hospital for an hour with a bored 2yo just to be sent away or be told something i already know (4th baby, getting stroppy now).

am willing to make another if its important, so does anyone know? tia

Never heard of it. But could it be a 'just in case' appointment. e.g. If your scan is OK then you may just have a routine 10 mins, but if they find something unusual they've got enough time to discuss it all with you? Just a guess.

Probably best to call the midwife to ask why an hour, and will it really be an hour!

mmm after 20wk scan here you usually have to see consultant. However it isnt an hour long appointment although you could be waiting that long past your appointment time.

I had an apt after my 12 week scan, this was b/c I had c/s last time and was to discuss what I want this time round. I don't have anymore until 36 weeks.

Seems odd that the hospital can't tell you what it's for though.

just had a call from hospital, is to do with poss problem having homebirth (although wasnt told it would be problem last time i gave birth!). mw who called looked at who the consultant was and said i was better off not going as he wasnt a fan of homebirths so i am better not seeing him. am feeling much better now, thought it was very odd no one knew what it was for! amazing how much quicker you get dealt with when you stand up for yourself, must do it more often in future

thanks for replies

ggg - Are you thinking about changing your consultant? (If that is possible).

gigglinggoblin · 26/09/2006 12:36

no, wont bother changing consultant, just wont see him. tbh i have never liked male consultants in this area, all the ones i have seen made me feel like i was just being processed if that makes sense. they dont seem to have the same attitude to birth midwives have.

3andnomore i do get the feeling i am going to have to be fairly forceful about getting what i want. dp is right behind me tho so i know he will stick up for me if i feel unable to do so

i have been waiting 2 weeks for someone to tell me what this appointment was for. within half an hour of cancelling it i find out. does make you wonder if they just werent going to tell me til i got there
