Shit! My 3yo has just learned how to guilt trip

I think it's because we've just gotten back from visiting my parents...
Yesterday I was told for most of the bus ride that I was a naughty mummy since I wouldn't let DS play with my phone. The phone was a reward for good behaviour but DS had been acting up in town so no phone. Then at bedtime he told me I had made him sad and I should be nicer to him. I wasn't ready for this level of guilt tripping for a few more years!

Just say 'oh dear, nevermind!'

That usually works when my 5yo starts mentioning stuff to make me feel guilty (in a similar context to your situation).

Yeah, 2.5yo has started to work that one out.

"Mummy, can we go to the park?"
"No, it's late, we need to go straight home."
"Oh. Mummy?"
"Yes?"
"I'm really very sad..."

Hmm

After explaining that I wasn't naughty he had didn't listen to me and that's why he couldn't play with my phone. The thirty million reiterations I ignored. I did giggle when two uni students we're talking about not wanting kids as they were too young. There was another mum on the bus with two young kids and one was being a typical toddler.
