Hairdryer - what age?

I am finding it very hard to get my 2 year olds hair dry in time for bed if I wash it in her night time bath. Currently just rubbing it with a towel. But at what age could I try the hairdryer?

Is it essential that it is dry for bed? We wash dds hair during her bedtime bath too and many a time shes gone to bed with damp hair.

Any age!

I used a hairdryer on my dd from an early age as she had loads of hair. At the time you could get a baby hairdryer but you would have been quicker blowing it yourself than using it! (my sister got me it for a joke)

I do put her in with it damp but am not sure on the colder nights, and also it still takes ages to get it just damp.

My DD is three and I've just started to use one tonight funnily enough. I bought a value Argos one, as I didn't want something that was really hot

Pico2 · 17/09/2014 20:15

We used one from 2. As long as you can turn the heat down as it is harder to dry someone else's hair without burning them than your own.

partyskirt · 17/09/2014 20:16

Are you using it on the actual cold air setting or one of the warmish ones?

I would use the lowest warm setting and not too close to their heads. My dd has thick hair and it dries enough (not bone dry) after a few mins.

littlemonster · 17/09/2014 20:26

I use them from 2. Hate the feeling of being in bed with wet hair myself so assume they do to and because one of my DS's looks bit ridiculous if his hair is left to do its thing!

Use a colder setting though.

addictedtosugar · 17/09/2014 20:38

I've used a hair drier since they were tiny. DS1 needs it, DS2 has so little hair its so he doesn't object that DS1 is doing something he can't....
Cooler setting. I also have a cool shot button, which I use if it gets a bit warm - I keep my hand between the hair drier and the child.

leelteloo · 17/09/2014 20:43

Errrr am I missing something..have used hair dryer to dry all my kids hair from as soon as it was long enough to need it. Should I not be?

Pico2 · 17/09/2014 20:51

Leelletoo - that seems reasonable to me. We only got to 2 before using a hair dryer as DD took ages to grow much hair.

We use the lowest warm setting. Though I gave up on drying DD's hair when she started to object to me drying it straight. It goes curly if left to its own devices.

As soon as they have enough hair to benefit from it. So with mine from about 12 months. They both love it, and like putting rollers and clips in. Both boys!

My son had his thick mop dried with a hair dryer almost from birth! He liked the sound, and found the sensation funny, and he's always disliked having his head towel-dried.

feeona123 · 17/09/2014 23:23

I've used the hair dryer from birth x
