Gifts for parties

Not sure if this is the best place to post. We're just entering the phase of classmates birthday parties.
DD has been invited to a couple so far (4th bday). They are classmates at the moment - I've not met them & it doesnâ??t sound like they are close friends with DD. I suspect the whole class is invited.

Just wondered what others would consider to be an acceptable gift/amount to spend. Don't want to appear mean or over the top but this is new to us!

Thanks.

Haven't got to this age yet with dd but I don't think I'd spend more than £5 unless they're close friends, some craft things might be a nice idea like pens, stickers etc because I think most children would like that kind of thing

Usbourne doodle books
There's also range of sticker books, about a fiver, perfect for this age.

about a fiver but look at book people and check out the offers on collections as you cam split them - i bought a 10 pack of Julia Donaldson ones the other week for £10 - nearly £100 worth of books - will be splitting for Xmas presents

I only ever spend upto £5 . A nice book or arts and crafts set go down well

£10 is my oimit for a present, but for that age pop to argos and you can get 3 buckets of crafty bits/toys for £15 so thats 3 presents for 3 parties!

addictedtosugar · 17/09/2014 20:29

Yep, spend £5-6, but buy whats on offer.
Bulk book buys, 3-for-2, tesco club boosts (when they did them on toys) etc.
Also, keep your eyes open for Amazon bargains.

If you find something good that is heavily discounted, buy several!

Thanks all for the ideas.
