Caravan holiday

Hi, just after a bit of advice.

I have a 7month old ds and we're going on our first family holiday soon which really excited about but starting to panic over small things. We have a travel cot we are taking but suddenly realised will we have room to put this somewhere?! Guessing really only place big enough is prob lounge which if fine but ds goes to bed at 7.30 and prob unlikely to with us in same room so we'll prob have to stay in bedroom at that time too. Also he currently eats puréed which I batch cook and freeze but obviously not gonna be easy to transport so guess I'll have to think carefully about what we eat to make sure ds can have some. Anyone been on caravan holiday and have any tips? It's one of those sun deals we're using.

TIA

How many bedrooms has it got? If its two, could you put the travel cot in the other room? If its one, could you put it in the bedroom and both sleep in the lounge? A bed guard might help if space is limited.

At 7 months, can't he eat things like sandwiches, cheese on toast, spag Bol etc? What will you be eating?

SoonToBeSix · 16/09/2014 16:57

Can't you just use pouches eg Ella's kitchen if it's just for a week. They are nutritional ok if not used all the time.

Soon I didn't suggest pouches in case the OPs Lo takes a liking to them and then refuses her loving prepared purees when back at home. Grin

OP perhaps you could do a mix of finger food and pouches?

Put him in the bedroom and you sleep in the lounge.

Put him in the bedroom but move him to the lounge when you want to go to bed.

He can eat what you eat. Or buy pouches. Or jars.

He'll be fine.

I'm not sure what the caravan will be like its a sun holiday deal. You have to pay for 4 people so guessing it will have 2 bedrooms but from past experience tend to only be able to just about walk around the beds so not sure travel cot would fit in a bedroom. My ds has literally just turned 7 months this week and we waited to begin weaning till close to 6 month mark so still fairly new to it. Ds does have some finger foods but other than toast and rice cakes not interested in actually eating much of it. Bit worried about giving too many 'normal foods' we're eating unless easily mashable as ds still not chewing properly and instead trying to swallow huge chunks and gagging lots. I know he needs to practise this and am giving him finger foods but trying it alongside purée to ensure he heats something and gagging doesn't put him off too much (will often not want to eat anymore after gagging). Doing well with purée tho. Think we'll have to do a mixture of pouches and finger foods and if possible to sleep in lounge then that might be a plan!

The pouches will be fine for a week.

Phone the park and ask if you can have the beds taken out of the other bedroom. We do this with Haven and it's no problem.

Agree with Sugar Plump, give them a ring and explain your needs. I've found that making requests often produces an unexpected upgrade too!

We recently went on holiday with haven and I know that they have cots you can hire, would this be an option? The bedrooms are really small with 2 beds in but perhaps they could remove a bed for you as pp said. For his meals could you take a hand blender with you and grab some fruit and veg to cook, puree and freeze on the first day, the kitchen in our caravan was quite well equipped. Enjoy your holiday

The caravan we stayed in had space for the travel cot beside the double bed. Check to see if they have any suitable vans.

Ron99 · 21/09/2014 15:18

The caravan may well have a cot side you can use. If you have a stick blender or can borrow one take that with you and you can puree some of your food. Enjoy the break

I love caravan holidays. Scrap the travel cot and take a bed guard for the twin beds in 2nd bedroom. Use pouches for the week and have a good trip. Tbh sleeping arrangements on holidays will be tricky for next few years as we are finding. Just make the best of what you have. Take a warm tog sleeping grow bag as caravans get chilly In early hours of morn x
