How do you do yours?

DD1 aged 4. DD2 aged 1.

Bath/nappy or loo/pjs/teeth/3 stories/bed (often with songs or stories left playing on CD).

DD1 carted back upstairs 2 or 3 times with patience disappearing each time

ds, 3, and dd, nearly 2.
I do one, dh does the other. We swap the following night.
Supper, bath or wash, cream on, PJs on, story and/or tv, teeth clean then bed. Takes around 3/4 of an hour.

Thank you. Although I was thinking more for a 2/3 month old.

Chuck ds in the bath, make him brush his teeth. Out and pjs on. Story and bed.

At 2/3 months my routine was pretty none existent to be honest. Poss a bath, change of nappy and baby gro then milk and into bed beside me. Ds woke every 2 hours tho until recently, so it wasn't exactly a success!

fionnthedog · 16/09/2014 18:26

Ds is 4 months but we have done a bedtime routine for at least 2 months: bath, massage, into sleep suit with lullaby, bf then into cot. He defs knows it's bedtime and works even if we're somewhere other than home.

Dd is 5 months and we've only started attempting a bedtime this week now she's in the cot bed. Problem is she's usually tired by 6 so what little routine we have - into sleep suit and goodnight to brother - is done at an ear piercing scream! So we're still working on it...

On the contrary, her 3 year old brother has had a strict bedtime routine since he was 5 months. Bath or no nappy time, teeth, milk and two stories from his bedtime books. Then lullabies and left alone after 10 minutes. Not sure why we're struggling with dd!

Blankiefan · 16/09/2014 21:43

We introduced our routine around 3 months and it's been great.

Bath (only every 2nd night), creams (eczema baby), nappy change, pj's, grobag, bottle, stories.

We've always done the same 2 stories which we now know by heart (!). As soon as she hears the start of the first one, she gets that it's bed time and time for sleeping. This has worked when she's away from home and even away from us. It's also useful if she wakens at night - we don't use it every time - only if she's really awake in the middle of the night for some reason. It generally settles her nicely.

We use Each Peach Pear Plum and Goodnight Moon.

My baby is 10 weeks old we have had a routine in place from 6 weeks. Started sleeping through the night from 7 weeks. I do bath, baby grow, bottle then cot. Also a story if she is not too tiered.

LucyB1 · 18/09/2014 09:16

Thank you. What time does all this happen? Are they in their own room or yours? What times do they wake in the night?

I'm very lazy so at 5 months my routine is change nappy, put in baby gro put in gro bag, bf in her room with nightlight only, put in cot. Sometimes she needs her back rubbing a little bit to help her off but is getting better. I do bathe her just I find it easier to do in the day.

LavalavalavaLamp · 18/09/2014 09:23

Oh and my nights are best if I put her down between 8 and 9 but sometimes she resists sleep so it ends up being more like 10

confusedandemployed · 18/09/2014 12:45

I've had the same routine for DD since day 1, she's 18mo now. Obviously there have been a few amendments, but it's always gone:-

  • Bath (or wash when she was younger and less grimy)
  • Into her darkened room, babygro / sleeping bag, vaporub on feet and chest, and now the occasional teething powder
  • (These days we have a story after this)
  • Milk
  • (These days we clean teeth after obviously)
  • Into cot with dummy and her Taggie

She loves bedtime. Often she's so tired she will move the pages of her story book forward and only drink half her milk. After teeth she looks up at me and says, "Thleep?" (great lisp going on!)
