my neighbours down the road has a dd born at 26 wks. she has been home for about 3 wks now. i think her due date was 18th sept.

dh told me tonight that he found out that when they go out, this baby is being carried in the mother's lap. i think in a carseat type thing but not buckled in because they have a transit van and a porsch ffs.

apparently they are getting a suitable car soon.

i am saddened and annoyed.

how incredibly stupid are they, I'd be very tempted to notify the police myself....

Well, those people are obviously not very educated....hopefully the official new carseat law makes these sort of people see sense, sigh! That is just terrible...usually you don't even get to leave hospital unless you have a carseat to take them home in, and the m/w fits it! If it isn't a fitted one, that is!

Blandmum · 24/09/2006 22:35

If she is holding the car seat and they have an accident the baby and seat will shoot out of her hands and will crash into whatever is in front of her.

This is simple physics. She would not be able to hold onto the baby, even if she was only hit in a 10 mile per hour shunt.

It is impossible to hold only a baby in a car accident.

kiskidee · 24/09/2006 22:35

i gave birth at the same hospital as she did. we fitted our own carseat.

i am tempted to tell the police. but wouldn't they have to be driving around?

I see this sort of thing really often. I see babies in people's arms, children belted into the same seatbelt as the adult whose lap they're on (in a crash, the child will get crushed by the adult ... nice ...), little kids rattling around the back seat, without belts.

Much of this was already illegal, and nobody did anything, I am hugely skeptical that the new carseat law will make any difference at all. (Do any adults ever get busted for not wearing their seatbelts?)

kiskidee · 24/09/2006 22:46

for me i think, hell, the emotional trauma of having her in scbu wasn't enough? and didn't she getting here so early warn you that you need a sensible effing car?

its not even like they don't have the money for one!

But the thing is, nearly everyone thinks they're an excellent driver, so they won't have a crash. So there's nothing to worry about!

kiskidee · 24/09/2006 22:48

sigh, you're right.

NQC..well..I may thin I am a good driver (reasonable anyway, lol)..but I do not trust other drivers one bit!!!!!!!!!!!!There is to many idiots about! So..surely it should be common sense that we protect our children as much as we can!
I don't understand the whole carseat law scenario anyway...most of that was common sense and people should be following it without a law being put out...but of course I am wrong...no people actually do wait for the law to come out...i.e. they did not look into the reasons for it and therefore don't understand or care for Accident dynamics, sigh!
But, got to admit...yeah I see this whole malark rather often in Corby...probably the same thing as may people quoting..argh,,,what is all the fuss about with that new law...silly that...we were alrgiht in cars without seatbelts when we were lil ones...completely forgetting that cas weren't as fast and not as much was known about accident dynamics!

3andnomore · 24/09/2006 23:20

Oh NQC..that main rant wasn't aimed at you btw!
