What's up with baby???!

My 5 and a half week old baby is usually pretty easy but the last few days she's been really unsettled. She's struggling to sleep (lots of yawns but crying and not drifting off), wanting to feed all the time (she's ebf) crying constantly when not feeding (that's the only thing I can do to settle her) she won't settle or sleep in the sling any more. Also she's been sick a few times, not much but she never used to be. Could it be reflux? Or I've read looked at wonder weeks and thought it could be a growth spurt, or possibly over tiredness as she has just started to be really alert and looking around at everything (inbetween crying!)

Is this normal and any suggestions of what to do? I feel unable to help her other than by putting her on the boob, which is exhausting. She's currently on my shoulder crying and screaming, then looking sleepy then screaming again! ConfusedHmm

I'm going through the same thing at 4.5 weeks. it's exhausting to deal with the constant crying. I read that going into week 5 or there abouts they go through a mental growth spurt that makes them fussy and difficult. they are seeing things clearer and getting overstimulated. I hope it eases for you soon!

Really really common in week 5/6. They're coming out of the sleepy baby phase and also have a growth spurt, the feeding all of the time is to increase your supply.

A little bit of sick is totally normal too, just give them a nice gentle wind.

It sounds totally normal. If you can, get a good box set and a large packet of hobnobs and settle in for a couple of days. It should pass!

Thanks to both of you for the reassurance. I thought it was normal but it's easy to start worrying something is up or that I'm doing something wrong. She's finally fallen asleep in me for now Smile

My sister's baby is exclusively breastfed. He has a dummy and loves it, does not interfere with him breastfeeding.

We're going through similar. Hoping it passes soon! No advice, just hugs and handholding!

Growth spurt plus overtiredness is most likely. You have to get the naps in somehow (moving pram usually worked for dd) to prevent the overtiredness - they won't just fall asleep when tired any more! (daft creatures babies)

Sounds like witching hour has arrived! DS (now 8.5 months) did the same thing, worse at night between hours of 7-midnight. Keep your routine, calm environment & feed on demand & ride it out. It's tough!
