Ear wax in babies

I've noticed a build up of ear wax in my baby (3 months), what do I do? Is this a job for the doctor?

Not sure if this is the right thing to do.. But you can get baby ear buds that mean they can't go in too far (we got ours in Morrisons)
I'm sure it's probably not reccomended but it helped dd!

My DD2 has enormously waxy ears. I just clean them very carefully with a cotton bud, being sure not to poke it inside the ear canal but just on the outside. I do it when she is very calm or half asleep as I don't want jab it inside by accident.
She is two now. I would only take her to the GP if she seemed distressed or couldn't hear me. As it is we have had no problems...some DC just have waxy ears! Hth.

Wax is meant to be there, it clears on its own. Unless she is having problems hearing leave it be. DO NOT use cotton buds. They are dangerous if they accidentally go in too far - can perforate ear drum. They also tend to just push the wax further in, where the ear cannot clear it so it goes hard and causes problems.
Clean the outside of the ear, but never put anything into the ear smaller than your elbow!

My DD's ears get like this. At bath time I stick a corner of a muslin in the bath, wrap it round my little finger and then give them a little clean. Seems to do the trick without any danger of going too far in.

It will just come out on its own eventually...usually over me lol!

After bath clean it with cotton buds gently but use the one that is for babies only! not a big cotton buds!

One of my greatest joys while feeding DD was picking the wax from her ears. She's 3.5 now and objects so I'm having another baby Grin

I too love a good pick while I'm feeding 5 month old dd. Ds, 3, won't let me do it anymore so I'm enjoying it second time around princess Grin
I personally wouldn't use cotton buds on a baby, just wash the outside in the bath.

My dd2 had excessive ear wax for the first year of her life. I took her to the GP twice to hwt it checked out. The GP didn't find anything to be concerned about.

Her speech has been slow to develop, so the HV arranged for a hearing test after her 2y review. They discovered that her hearing is prefect and there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

I mentioned the fact that she had loads of ear wax in the first 12m of her life, and those lovely audiologists said that they love ear wax: a sign of a healthy ear cleansing itself.

Dd2 is now 2.5yo and fast catching up with her big sister as Chief Chattebox Grin

Do mention it to your HV if you are worried, OP Smile

I never poked about in my baby's ears. I think I read it can damage the eardrum if you poke around too deeply. I just used to clean the wax from the outside with my clean finger.
