washable wipes-how to keep them damp

I've been using washable wipes on DS since he was born 5 months ago so really I should know what I'm doing...

Thing is, they're fleece so don't stay wet. I put them in a tub with my wipe solution but after sitting for about an hour or so, the solution has soaked through them all and the top wipes are dry... The only way I can get them to stay wet is if I have the water level above the top wipe. This seems a bit extreme. Is this the best way to do it or is there a trick to keep them damp?

It's not such a problem at home but I would like it if I could get the hang of this for when I'm out and about as I don't like having too much liquid in the changing bag in case of leaks!

TIA

I don't like fleece wipes for this reason - also because they are useless when it comes to wiping poo. I have cotton wipes which stay nice and wet in a plastic bagwhen we are out.

I can't believe I didn't even think of changing to cotton... I just had a big fleece which I cut into liners and wipes... Cotton makes much more sense - thank you

I honestly was quite sensible before having DS!

How about carrying a little spray bottle in your changing bag, and just spraying the wipes as you need them? You don't need to worry about refreshing the wipes every day or two if you do that - and no risk of mould.
