Anyone see this in the news today? Big new report by Univ of Oxford showing that bullying between siblings v. likely to result in long-term psychological damage. Our 2 DCs have a dreadful relationship. There are bright moments when they play together nicely and my hopes are raised, but generally the older boy (10) is vile to his sister (7). She feels wronged and got at and deliberately provokes him. Generally, though, it is DS who is the cruel one and more 'in the wrong'. He constantly undermines her - has become so ingrained I don't think he even hears himself doing it. I think it stems from his own lack of self-esteem (not sure why - have bent over backwards to bolster his confidence). He genuinely believes that he is never not in the wrong and that we are being unfair towards him. Poor DD was in floods of tears last night asking why DS was so mean to her and why he 'didn't love her'. Heartbreaking. Has anyone experienced this and have any advice? Obviously the next step is family therapy, but would love to be able to handle it within the family if poss so as not to escalate it to a massive 'issue'.
