Nearly 10 month old not eating

Hi, I'm not sure if this is normal or not so hoping for so reassurance and / or advise.

My nearly 10 month old started weaning at 6 months and took to it really well. We do a combination of spoon & finger foods. He was happily eating blended stews, curry, pasta, sauces etc and can feed himself toast, fruit pieces, crackers etc. He loves yogurt. He has 3 meals a day and is BF during the day, and has around 7oz formula before bed and usually around 5oz formula as a dream feed.

The issue is, for the last week or so he's been refusing his meals. He'll eat his weetabix from a spoon but clamps his mouth for other meals, things he's previously enjoyed. If I put it to his lips he gags and sputters. But he'll happily let me spoon feed him yogurt & fruit.

Any ideas? Is he just getting more choosy? I've been giving him more finger foods ( he ate tuna yesterday which surprised me!) but I know he's not getting many veggies this way. The other issue is that he looks for milk from me a lot more throughout the day. We have no routine, he BF little and often (...constantly) . TIA

DS started being funny with food around 10mo everyone told me to just relax and he'll get over it but by 1yr 10mo he was eating a couple of spoons of his meals and the rest in milk. I had to cut the milk out apart from bedtime and morning it took days and days of tears and asking for milk but he eats much better now I wish I had dealt with it right away tbh it was a very stressful year worrying about him and battling to get just a couple of spoons in :(

I would try to cut the milk and try to only give milk at certain times I think its about 2 full bottles worth at 10mo they should have. I know they said food for fun until 1 but in my limited experience of DS it just got worse and worse it was like he forgot he liked food and was hellish to break.

I should have said DS was a good eater before as well

Could it be teething? I've had similar over the last few days and noticed top tooth is coming through

I think I will try distraction when he's looking for milk and try to limit it to mid morning & mid afternoon and then his bottle before bed...might help ensure he is hungry at lunch and tea time.

I'm not sure about teething, he definitely is at the moment (he only has 2 so far) but I'm confused why he'll eat certain things. Today he ate his weetabix (about 2/3 of one) but refused his chicken stew (lumpy purée) at lunch. For tea he had a good go at dairylea on toast and he ate up his ice pudding and nearly a whole pear! It's the meal refusing I don't get, wondering if he has an aversion to blended food now? I tried him with an Ella's Kitchen pouch yesterday and he wasn't interested in that either. I don't mind doing some 'baby led' but I loved that he enjoyed puréed stews & roasts etc as I knew he was getting lots of lovey homemade nutrients. Not the same from a couple of bites of toast and some pear! Hopefully just a phase Smile thanks for your replies

I'm having this issue with 11mo DD at the moment - it'll be another tooth I'm sure, it's a definite pattern! Total pain in the arse, but she's the same, super picky, barely eats anything but there's no logic to what she will / won't eat. Usually lasts 7 days or so, then she's back to normal, and I notice a tooth poking through a few days later. While it's happening I always feel really stressed, like she'll never eat again, but of course she does. I'm learning to relax a bit more about it each time...

Yes I'm finding some things he'll eat while others he spits into his hand. I'm just giving him things I know he will eat (beans and banana mostly) and I'm sure it'll get better again. Could you give half a roast potato etc rather than pureeing it instead?
