How laid-back are you as a parent?

Unfortunately I find that I'm far too uptight.

There is one mum at dd1's school who has a three year old daughter who insists on coming to pick up her brother from school in just her knickers. The mother is not bothered about it at all, "as long as she's wearing shoes"

Also, outside dd1's classroom today there was a massive puddle and three three year olds were jumping in and out getting soaking wet. I would probably get annoyed if dd2 did that...

I'd be the one not even bothered about shoes.

WideWebWitch · 22/09/2006 20:31

and puddles are an invitation to jump, it's only water.

Medulla · 22/09/2006 20:31

None of that would bother me

As you would be able to tell if you took one look at my over flowing washing basket

I'm fairly laid back.

There are so many things to be bothered about, jumping in puddles and odd clothing choices (mine often went out in dressing up clothes) are just not worth getting stressed about.

I get uptight about things like am I giving dd enough attention, or does she watch too much t.v. It's so bloody annoying because rationally, i know that she gets loads of attention and that although she prob watches a wee bit too much t.v, it's not going to kill her. Unfortunately, I part company with rationality quite often !

I'm one of the laid back ones. I used to encourage my children to jump in puddles - both of mine are naturally very timid and cautious. Reading some MN posts and how protective some mothers are makes me wonder how my children have survived. .

Puddle jumping in wellies or tatties = fine.

Wandering around in pants - fine.

Pulling penis through side of pants and shouting "Look at my winky and testitulls!" when the nice man comes to fix the broadband - Not fine.

I'm pretty laid back, I think. I have spent many hours in the company of mothers wondering why they were worrying so much about so many small things.

Colditz that is the best laugh I've had in ages!!

ProfYaffle · 22/09/2006 21:20

My dd is always in puddles (her choice btw, i don't shove her in or anything), it's what being a toddler is about isn't it?

LittleSarah · 22/09/2006 21:28

Very... I find it makes things much easier!

I jump in puddles WITH my kids!

Very laid back.

NotSoUselessMum · 22/09/2006 21:56

me too very.
makes things easier and gives you the chance to enjoy it too. there's already enough to be stressed about. and a lot more there will be I can sense.

Puddles? I wish I could jump in it too.
went to a park yesterday and kids were splashing under a fountain. DD 1.3 wanted to go too. so I let her. did not have spare nappies, no spare clothes, no towel... NOTHING! luckily I was wearing a vest under a TShirt, so I used that on DD and begged for a nappy. we both looked homeless going back home on the tube. but we had a memorable day!

The only one thing that really gets to me is when DD rips the pages of the books we are reading while trying to turn them! but i love my books...

oh I won't tollerate being inpolite - but she's too young for that.
