Top tips for babies on the beach

My apologies is this seems a little pfb but I know mumsnet will have some good ideas!
We're of to St Ives tomorrow with DS 5 months. We love surfing and plan to spend loads of time on the beach. I'm taking playmats, beach shelter, bumbo and grandparents (as he's a little young to come into the surf with us!). I'm keen that he experiences all the fun of the beach but he is a grabby little grabster and puts everything in his mouth. Any good tips to avoid him eating half the beach? Also need tips to avoid getting sand everywhere/remove the sand that is everywhere!

Personally we don't take that much

Baby baby laid on towel ( usually on sunbed as abroad)

Once rolling/ crawling, just let them sit/ crawl in sand then on towel as usual

You'll be fine - have spent lots of time on the beach with baby this summer. Sun shelter, a few toys, and appropriate clothing are pretty much all you need. Give up trying to keep sand out of crevices... I initially tried to use baby wipes on DS and it just had the effect of rubbing grit into his skin. I go with it and then just bathe as soon as we get in. I also take a fleecy onesie for putting on after he's been in the sea, as they get cold quickly.

Most babies eat sand, DS doesn't anymore so they do learn eventually..!

Have a lovely time

I live in Cornwall. St Ives is an amazing place.

Make sure you bring a wind breaker and some warm clothes Grin.

Take a hat that you can tie on.

A squirty water bottle (something like a refilled mineral water bottle with a sports cap works fine) so that when they inevitably get sand in their eye/ear/mouth/somewhere else it needs to be removed from you can rinse them easier.

If they have a dummy, lots and lots of them for when they get sandy.

Take low expectations, babies often don't last that long on the beach esp when chilly. Great idea to take grandparents.

Talc helps to get damp sand off Smile

I also read a really good tip, wrap all valuables such as wallets phones etc in a clean nappy. Any potential thieves would not think to look inside what they think is a dirty nappy.
