Holiday with an 8mth old - thoughts?

I am toying with booking a holiday with my dh and dd for January when she will be 8mo as I am back to work in February ;(
I presume dd will be too young for 'kids club' so would be looking for somewhere with a crèche for the odd hour or so.. Has anyone got experience of these at resorts abroad for this age child?
Also, I am a sun worshiper but dd can't obviously be out in the sun all day so lounging by the pool/ on the beach all day is out.. What have others found useful to keep little ones amused on holiday? Any recommended destinations for Jan bearing in mind weather and flight time? Or should we leave it for another few months till she's a bit older?

When going on holiday anywhere, we have researched local baby sitters. What we normally do is have dinner with DD (from 6 months old), and the babysitter joins us for dessert/coffee. One of us will go with babysitter and DD back to the hotel room to get her ready for bed and then leave her in the care of babysitter whilst we have a couple of hours to ourselves. Our child is quite gregarious and comfortable with strangers, and doing it this way means we get to meet the babysitter first too. It costs about 10 an hour plus whatever tip is needed.

You can get beach tents which fold down to nearly nothing - you could take one of these with you, but I think you have already accepted that your days of sun worshiping are on hold for a few years.

8 months is fine tbh. You can leave baby sleeping in pram or on sunbed in shade under muslin after lunch and probably another x2 naps. So a fair few hours alone time to sit in sun/ go in pool.

In eve we just take baby to restaurant to eat in pjs then then sleep in pram in eve whilst we sit in restaurant/ bar along beach late

We usually go to small hotels without crèche facilities ie 20 rooms or less so more homely feel
