Taking toddlers to playgroup when they've got a cold

DD has a cold (coughing, sneezing etc). It's the first playgroup back after the summer and I'm keen to go but in case she's infectious don't know how good an idea it is. DP says if she's not got a fever she's good to go but I'm less concerned for her as she's fine in herself but worried about her passing it around.

I wouldn't if it's acute (=snot flying everywhere)
if it's just coughing and dr sneezing, yes.
take wipes to wipe hands/face regularly, have fun.

Take her. Kids need germs.

If they weren't particularly ill in themselves than I always took mine. Toddlers often seem have a cold from September to April, that's an awful lot of staying home Grin

Unless she's physically too ill to go and would be very distressed, I'd send her. Kids always have colds at that age. (Disclaimer: possibly a different answer if there's another child there with a serious respiratory problem, but I'd expect the playgroup to make that judgement call)

If it's a mild cold don't worry about it, as long as she feels OK. If I kept my son away every time he sneezed he'd never be there!

I agree. No temp and generally well (eating, drinking, playing), no d&v, no rash = good to go. Or you'll spend the whole winter at home!

Kids go to nursery far worse!

I do find this difficult, as from the age of about 5 months to 3 years my ds ended up in hospital every time he caught a cold so I had to avoid doing toddler groups for ages as he got something every time and it was too stressful.

He's better now but still needs an inhaler most times. He is starting preschool this week and it is a concern, I know you can't avoid these things, but I suppose I do think it is considerate to keep them home if they're really in the snotty/hacking cough stage as passing it on then is unavoidable for little ones, and for me any reduction in the amount going round makes a difference.

Would she rather be at home?

Thank you all. We decided to come in the end since she hadn't been for so long. I kept her well away from the babies but overall she was great. Thanks again :)

Last week at the playgroup wee girl with cold was sitting next to my daughter so she get the cold too +fever doctor said no playgroup for us this week and I can see why I don't want other parents to stay up all night watching your kid struggling to sleap and breath because of stuffed nose on other hand I understand thats how they build up their immune system
