3.5 & 2 yo.... I should've taken them sooner but they seem quite nervous already even though nothing negative has been said about it.. Something unknown obviously and new to them..

Any tips welcome. ( I will have 7mo in tow too!)

Are you being checked too? I always make appointments for DD1 and me at the same time. Then she can see me being checked before it's her turn. We have seen two different dentists and they were both really friendly to DD1 and let her go up and down in the seat/try the pink water!/choose a sticker etc.

I also get her a new toothbrush each time and she sees that as a massive treat!

I always took DS with me from being a tiny baby - sohe got used to the environment.

I would suggest that you go first - just a check up of course- don't let the dentist do anything noisy, like a clean. So perhaps forewarn the dentist that you want to introduce the DC to the chair.

Most dentists will understand to take it easy with small DC - probaly won't poke anything in their mouth - just ask them to open up and gently count the teeth.

A nice sticker afterwards was always a good reward - do they still get those??

Just keep it all lowkey.

my 2 have gone to my appointments since they were 6 months old and had started to get teeth. They were registered soon after getting teeth and the dentist always had a quick look in their mouths to get them used to it and being in the dentist environment.

The dentist may let them sit on your knee to get the check up although I dont think they will get more than a quick look. Is you 7 month old registered yet?

Don't be surprised on te first attempt that they won't do as they are asked. It took two attempts with the dentist before dd would even open her mouth. I don't think she was afraid I just think she was doing what dc do best

The first couple of times the children took turns after my check up to sit in the chair and the dentist counted their teeth and gave them a sticker. They love going now and it doesnt faze them at all.

DS2 wouldn't let them even look in his mouth first time or sit in the chair. Don't stress about it, take it at their pace, don't force them. Next visit I sat on the chair and DS sat on me, dentist checked his teeth and he let the hygienist clean them. Amazing! They gave him a little mirror so he could watch as well.

Take electronic distraction for when you are being checked, can you leave the youngest with someone? Sounds like you will have your hands full!

What worked with my 18 month old was repeated viewing of the peppa pig episode where she visit dr elephant the dentist. It's on YouTube if you search for it. Good luck I'm sure it will be easier than you think x
