bed wetting

My 7 year old daughter frequently wets the bed. It's driving me mad, tried being calm, shouting, ignoring, talking, restricting drinks after 5 pm. Nothing helps. any ideas why she does this? Haven't had this problem with my older son or younger daughter.

When you say frequently, how often do you mean? And has she ever been reliably dry at night for a longish period?

came out of nappies at 2 no probs. had odd ax at night. she can have weeks where completely dry then can wet bed 3 nights in a row. No pattern to it. can't associate it with any problems - school, family, telling off etc. seems to be worse now than when younger.

She couldn't have worms, I suppose? That can cause otherwise inexplicable wetting. (And they do go in cycles - eggs, worms, eggs, worms, yuck but ykwim!)

Although it is very annoying she really can't help it if she's asleep; if the practicalities of changing beds in the middle of the night is the biggest issue, could she wear Dri-nites for a bit? (They come in huge sizes now! And she could wear the same pair for a few nights if dry)

I wonder also if it might help to keep a diary of her wetting (for you I mean, not for her) and see if there's any pattern.

frazzledbutcalm you could almost be talking about my DS1. He came out night nappies at about 3 1/2, was fairly reliably dry, wetting around once a month. Now that he is 7 1/2 he wets far more regularly but is still capable of going about 15 nights at times without wetting, just enough for us to start to think we've cracked it again.

We spoke to the School nurse who referred him to the Enuresis clinic and advised we look at this website, it is full of fantastic advice.

The bottom line with our DS1 is that he doesn't drink enough fluids and has little control over when he empties his bladder, can't hold on (he is getting a little better now), can't empty his bladder, ie before bed, unless he desperately needs.

He is currently on the waiting list for a bedwetting alarm and the Dr and HV seem convinced that this will do the trick for my DS1, teach him to wake when he needs the toilet.

The main thing I try to remember is that he has absolutely no control over whether he wets the bed or not, however he does have control over whether or not he follows the instructions that the clinic have given for his daytime drinks and we try to focus on that.

thanks ursulatheseawitch, diary is a good idea, will try it. havent noticed a pattern but that doesnt mean there isnt one. after talking to mums at school i get the feeling its just one of those things that has to be outgrown.
MrsSpoon, nice to hear of someone with same problem. I try to be calm but dont always manage it! I'm now going to look at the website you mentioned and going to doctors next week. will let you all know how we get on!
