We are bored of toys and books and need something else to do in our day as she is awake for longer intervals now.
Everything goes in mouth so not sure about shaving foam or paints .....
What do you all do?

www.mess-around.co.uk/ Do you have one of these anywhere near you?

Cooked pasta with flour, water and food colouring to squish around. Tea leaves on a tray. Will try and think of some more

Cornflour with water to make a squashy mixture; dry rice or cereal; cooked spaghetti with a bit of colouring; water and bubbles?

Baby led weaning. Makes every mealtime into messy play. Good squidgy porridge is always fun or finger painting yoghurt on her tray, even a simple drink of water makes a fun puddle. Chunks of cooked vegetable or pasta to practise throwing skills. Sometime she even eats something...

Any food stuff wet or dry with food colouring - rice, porridge oats, spaghetti - with 'treasure basket' type objects hidden inside or scoops and cups for pouring. Silver foil is great for exploring - ripping/ rolling/ making into shapes.

I was going to say eating food too. My nine month old TRIES to eat everything he touches anyway, so anything not immediately edible presents either a choking hazard or a poisoning hazard Grin

The best thing my ds likes doing is to open the tupperware cupboard and fling the contents around the room.

What about yoghurt with food colouring as a sort of paint?

Make up a several pints of weak jelly. Allow to set at room temperature overnight. When set add jelly and child to bath or paddling pool and let her splat away.

Just shower it all away when she's had enough.

Leave a vest on her though so you can pick her up if you need to, it gets slippy.

You can get proper bath jelly sachets too, that turn the whole bath gloopy, we had some bought for us and it was brilliant.

How does that affect your drains? I have a cesspit and wouldn't like to risk it (but I don't have a 9mo either!)

Obviously you've got to be right next to her for these but my two enjoyed these:

Water: Sit baby on a towel (we also had a shower curtain underneath as we were on carpet) with a basin no more than 1/2 full of bubbly warm water, another basin/baking tray, colander, ladle, wooden spoon, cups and small pans. (or you could do it in the bath but at the time we only had a shower Grin )

Mirror: (ours was freestanding bathroom mirror in a plastic frame)- I let DS use kid felt tip pens to draw on the mirror on his reflection. Wipe with babywipe and start again if they want to.

Cereal: As mentioned before, great for pouring, 'cooking' or most satisfying - driving toy cars on (good stress busting crunchiness)! Grin
