7 months old: what should I be expecting?

DS is bilingual: one parent, one language. He is 7 months now. I had noticed around 4 months sounds like "ga" "go" and "gee" but now there is nothing. Just vowel sounds like "ah" "ooh" which are more like grunts and squeals. I know he was later than other babies his age to blow raspberries, and he doesn't recognise his name - I think, as he looks at me if I use someone else name as well.

When did your bilingual child start to babble? Should I be concerned?

DD started to babble like any other mono lingual baby. I think with 7 months it is a bit too much to expect a baby to recognise its name.

Just carry on but unless it is nearly 2 years I wouldn't start to worry at all.

Have you and dp considered baby signing? Have heard its great for all babies but esp bilingual ones. Yours is the right age to start.

Mine are bilingual. I would say babble more like 15months, odd word at 2 years, fully bilingual in sentences by 2 1/2

I can't remember the exact dates. But my DD1 was slow to start speaking. She was referred to a speech specialist just before her 2nd birthday by her nursery. But she had a sudden leap from when she was referred to when she saw the specialist. She suddenly started speaking in very long sentences. (3-4 words one, with a lot of vocals, but all in English). The speech therapist was very supportive of bilingualism. I wouldn't worry at 7mo.
