Carseats - does any one know what the rules are for the flip down seat in the boot of 7 seaters?

We have one of those huge Volvos with a pair of flip down seats in the boot to make it a 7 seater. Does anyone know if I need to have booster seats for those if I want to take a 5yr old child home from school? They are small seats, designed for kids, I presume, but this may not be enough.

I think these are exempt. Are they sideways facing?

charliecat · 18/09/2006 17:44

I read something about sideways facing not being good enough or something today....

  1. My vehicle has sideways facing seats in the rear. Does that make a difference?

Yes! Some vehicles such as camper vans and four-wheel drive vehicles are fitted with sideways facing rear seats. A child restraint in a sideways facing seat does not meet the legal requirements. A child restraint has to be fitted to an approved anchorage, which does not include a seat belt on a sideways facing seat. Therefore a child restraint cannot be used on such a seat.
