Putting things in mouth

My Ds is almost 16months and still puts things in his mouth. Mainly it is usually toys etc but he also today put a bird feather from the garden in as well as a stone, dandelion, sand. He has also bit dh, chewed on a shoe and the garden wall.
Is this normal because my dd 2.5 grew out of this really young and only really chewed toys anyway.
Worried about this and also if I miss it and swallows something and also germs.
What should I do?

My 18 mo is exactly the same, today we went for a walk and she tried to eat leaves, twigs and a stone so I think it's pretty normal, not sure there's really anything you can do about it though.

Totally and completely normal. Tbh you're lucky if they outgrow this before they're 2+. It's just a different way of exploring.

I just say yucky and make a face if it's something a bit grim... Grin

I'm glad to hear it's normal. DD is 17 months and still putting stuff in her mouth.
I also say 'Ychi' (Welsh) and she's slowly learning that it means nasty stuff!

My DS is 18 months and still doing this. I have to watch him like a hawk when we are out and about! He will listen if I say 'don't put that in your mouth' or 'no' though.

I will be glad when this stops!

We also had a poo incident when I was changing him and it was a particularly messy one and he managed to grab some and got it into his mouth. I was horrified and his face was a picture! He hasn't done it again... Grin
