Best Tandem Buggy?

Need some advice! Currently got a Mountain Buggy Swift which I love the handling of but dislike that it's only outwards facing. DS is 1yo and we're TTC #2 so the min age gap would be 21 months (all being well!). DS also walked at 11 mo and would rather be out of buggy than in! Would like to change to a buggy that can do the following:

  • good as a single or double
  • can handle woodland paths and occasional mud as we have a lab and walk everyday
  • not too wide/bulky as live in small terrace house
  • access to a basket when used double mode (P&Ts are out)

Have been considering iCandy Peach 2 or 3 (if win lottery), BJ City Select and Uppababy Vista with Rumble Seat.

Any advice/recommendations?

I love love love my Oyster Max. It is just as good as a single on days DD is in nursery.

You access the basket from the other side when two are in it and baby is facing you.

I know you said P&Ts are out but if you get a 'mummy clip' you can hang your changing bag / shopping from that which is what I did.

(Plus good for off-road as we do a lot of walks in the woods near us etc).

We have a two year age gap and love our jane. It was 75 from Ebay including a car seat and is very comfy on mud etc. the wheels have quick release bolts so it fits into our fiesta boot and isn.t a problem in shop aisles. The only drawback is the toddler seat in front isn't very comfy for a sleeping toddler and doesn't recline with the baby seat on the rear seat. Now that the baby seat is no longer needed both seats recline and they nap every outing.

I second the oyster max!

Treesandbees · 04/08/2014 13:10

Thanks - I'll check out the Oyster Max and Jane!

I already hang my change bag and shopping on my mountain buggy but still need the basket to store rain cover, extra layer, wellies etc as we're out so much. Don't know how people manage without the basket and 2 kids!!

BJ city select basket is enormous. Buggy is quite heavy and big, but basket more than makes up for it!

playftseforme · 04/08/2014 19:37

City select is briiliant

The vista is a lovely pram, but the rumble seat has a low maximum weight and can only be used with the toddler seat, so you need an insert to make it suitable from birth.

Another for bjcs

Treesandbees · 05/08/2014 11:28

Lots of votes for bjsc! Those who recommend it can you give me some more pros/cons? Thanks!

I had the Icandy peach blossom, it was fantastic as sins and double and sp light, I only sold (sold for £400) because I didn't need all the double bits anymore as my older one started walking a lot. Currently using the Icandy apple which is fab and can also be changed to a double.

Treesandbees · 05/08/2014 12:41

Schro - I love the icandy range! Which one was better off road? Don't know if I could get away with an Apple?

I think for off road, I would actually maybe go for the peach jogger, it has a bigger single wheel at the front but the apple and peach are both pretty good off road, better than the bugaboos I have tried anyway. The apple is a bit more work/bulkier tp convert to double but the seats are bigger, deeper and seem comfier.

I use/have used both on grass/mud/snow without a hitch.

HTH.

The thing that did it for me with the bjsc was the fact that the 2nd seat wasn't tucked away underneath. I've got twins and I dont like the thought of one having to beso low out of the way. The bjcs aalthough lower than a standard single seat, is at the front so lo can see everything or baby can go at front and you can have toddler facing you, as lets face it babies don't need the parent interaction for months and then it's in short bursts in between naps

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 05/08/2014 18:16

Tested out the apple on rocks today and it went fine. :).

So, peach is lighter but smaller seats, Apple is heavier (still much lighter than a standard tandem) but bigger seats and seems more stable on rougher terrain, both have large baskets.

Have seen a few pears (the apple with full pip converter) on ebay for less than £300, it's a good bargain and will re-sell for pretty much the same.

I have a rucksack. It's pretty much the only way I could manage with two under a year and all their crap important baby paraphernalia! In the early days if I went to my mum's for the day it must have looked like I was moving in as bag after bag came out of the boot!

2LittleFishes · 05/08/2014 19:34

Another vote for Oyster Max Smile

I love mine!

Baskets fab- loose some space once second seats on obviously but I just pop the raincovers in the basket under the second seat before I clip it on an then keeps maximum space in the basket for all the other rubbish! It's not too bulky as a single an can have the buggy board on once oldest gets a bit bigger.

Best baby related item I've ever bought!
